For Vista -- change the file permissions for "users" on the "hosts" file to have write and modify permissions and it should work.

Hi msiam, I believe he means go to/click "Start - computer - c - windows - system32 - drivers - etc" directory. Then right click on the file named "hosts" and click properties. In the new window choose the security tab and then click edit. You can now select users and give them write and modify control over the hosts file.

 I works.. So. Hey.. thanks to the both of you on that.. sorry dyancey
a large segment of my education on working on a PC has been by fixing things with the MJ.. .I'm still learning.. thanks to you and thanks to u 2 rootkit.. Great info..Another thing, not only does it work on my Vista machine, but, I I can just dial straight out area code and the number, none of the *67x*123456789just dial it and it works like a champ.. Thanks to the whole dang crew on that.. I freaked my wife out with it already.. She thought I was calling from her office to her cell phone and I told her I came to see her and where was she.. ha ha.. I love it!! :D

hmm, well i dont know what to think. I have gotten this to work but NOT on my verizon cell phone it still comes through as my mj number. With the exception of ONE time it actually spoofed the number properly. I did have to search around for a proxy (saltlake) that worked. I cant however duplicate it again to get it to work on my cell phone. it does like ive mentioned work with numbers like the above 712-580-9999. this is all through an ata device, which has to be reset every time any changes are made in calleridspoof.exe

anyone have any insight on getting this 100% is it possibly the proxy i am selecting? maybe a simple ata device setting. thanks

You need to send the number with a * inserted after the first digit, e.g. 8*004377950 . You can either set up your ATA dial plan to allow you to dial that way, or set it up to insert the * for you (always, or for certain number formats). As I write this, calling 8004377950 will read a 585 number, if the * is not present. With the *, you should hear your MJ number, or the spoofed number if the spoofer is working properly.

If you change the proxy, you have to wait for the ATA to reregister before you can call (typically 3 minutes), or you can do the reset.

unfortunately i cant type * at all, if i do theres a fast busy signal. I have tried on the default dialplan and an improved one that allows me not to have to dial my area code. I tried the * after first digit, second digit, and third digit all have the same result.

You need to add entries to the dial plan to allow this. For a quick test, try adding

Code: Select all

|[2-9]*x.
before the final close parenthesis. This will let you dial e.g. 8*004377950 .

I made it

Code: Select all

(*xx|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx(*xx|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.|[2-9]*x.|<411:18004664411>S0))
and that WORKED. It allowed me to dial the * AND it spoofed for my cell phone too!!!

I guess the only thing to figure out is the dialplan and how to make it auto dial the * in the correct place in the area code since I dont dial area codes (for local numbers) with my current dialplan

but, I dont know how to thank you, now i can spoof with my vonage number so it will appear as nothing has changed until mj allows porting!!! beautiful !!

here is what i came up with for LOCAL calling so no area code is needed, with the * inserted auto also.

Code: Select all

(*xx|0|00|<:15*10>[2-9]xxxxxx(*xx|0|00|<:15*10>[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.|[2-9]*x.|<411:18004664411>S0))
This seems to work for the local calls but now I need to set up a rule in the dialplan to handle NON local area code numbers and have the * inserted. anyone have any suggestions, Ive read the dialplan tutorial but its a little over my head.
thank you

this is what I think it should be, could anyone check it out for accuracy?

Code: Select all

(*xx|0|00|<:15*10>[2-9]xxxxxx(*xx|0|00|<:15*10>[2-9]xxxxxx|<1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxx:1[2-9]*xx[2-9]xxxxxx>|xxxxxxxxxxxx.|[2-9]*x.|<411:18004664411>S0))
Thank you

Local MagicJack IP?

Post by Jerry »

My Windows XP system is behind a wireless rounter that provides it with DNS (subject to change). The router is on a static IP address on a cable modem.
What address do I use?
I have tried every tip on this board (dialing mask with *s in string, etc.) but I can't seem to spoof at all, no matter which proxy I use. I'm located in Los Angeles. Any other ideas?

I don't know what an ATA device is. Are you referring to a normal phone attached to the MJ via RJ-11 jack?
In any case, right now I'm doing all my testing with the soft phone interface. Does the spoofing program work differently with a normal hardware telephone?

As described, been there, done that. It doesn't spoof, so I'm attempting to troubleshoot and make sure I'm plugging in the right IP address for the MJ. Since the PC it's attached to via USB is getting DNS via a wireless router, which is in turn behind a cable modem with a static IP address, what IP do I use?

steveostop wrote:hey all, I read through the better part of this entire thread last night and decided to give it a shot, I had a lot of little stupid mistakes that lead to the spoofer not working for me. I got to thinking and sent MagicHack an email and he was kind enough to furnish me with the source of his app. One thing led to another and I made a good amount of additions including:

*Drop down of last 10 numbers used for spoofings
*Per-dialed custom spoof setup
*Selected proxy from drop-down or type in and software does the rest
*Disable/Enable the Auto-hide on apply
*hosts file update via Enable Spoofer check box, no more manual edits :D

It been working great for me but I don't have a lot of testing abilities at the moment, so let me know of any bugs.

Here is the download link: http://rapidshare.com/files/114916121/CallerIDSpoof.exe.html

Thanks to MagicHack for the original program and source!
Thanks to Stewart for the pearl version and his creative genius!

P.S. Let me know of any other improvements/add-ons you may be interested in and I'll see what I can do...

Hello Stevostop,
What a great program! Thanks to both you and the other gentlemen for putting this together for us.
I am not a tech person and do not have a clue about scripts and or programming. I installed the program and it did not seem to work so I kept changing the MJ proxy's and finally I could not dial at all and kept getting the dreaded Error 3. I did a couple computer reboots and it still did not work and I could not dial out now. Finally I changed the proxy to Boston1.proxy.talk(no ryme or reason, just trying a different one), then I pulled the MJ from the USB and did a reboot and plugged the MJ back into the USB and it installed itself as it should then I tried it again and it fianlly worked just like it was supposed to! I wish I could come up with exactly what I did to make it work but this is the process I went through. Thanks again for your hard work.

Larry

P.S. I even installed the fix that stops the program from poping up on screen every time you dial and it is working too! Life is good!

I can't get my spoofer to work correctly. All my outgoing calls have a caller ID of the normal MagicJack number. No matter what I type in the spoofing program, it always comes up as the original number that was assigned to my MagicJack.

Does the hosts file need to be edited for something else? Or is there something else going on?

Figured out this new one edits the hosts file for you. But you have to unplug the MJ and plug it back in if you wish to enable or disable the spoofer app.

I just wish it came with better instructions :(

Man, I know that there is only so far that you can go, but are there any thoughts out there why it might not be working for me?
I've tried all the hints, but no go. My phone number always comes thru and incoming blocked calls stay blocked.

Any help would be appreciated.

I dont know much about running the app for a magic jack thats plugged into the pc, but make sure your unplugging and reinserting magic jack... and restarting sofware for magicjack. and you have to do this for each time you select a different proxy. Also, you can edit the host file and put in ALL the proxy's. I dont know if this will work for you but running an ata device this is what I did.

Well, here's something strange. :? . The spoofer works great, I'm running Vista Home.. When I plug in the MJ without the spoofer running my MJ gives the old Code3 and I ain't callin' nowhere.. So, I bring up the old spoofer and within about 30 secs, "ready to Call" is up and all is well, The fist time this happened, I was doing the MagicFix the Vista Fix, the fix at the end of the MagicFix.. Crap I even tried going back to a previous date .. Didn't discover this till I just out of a hunch brought up the spoofer while playing with the MJ to try to get it going. 8) .Since then, I've proved to myself that this is happening and not my imagination.. Hmm. :o How strange is that?? When the spoofer comes up I have to hit the apply, then within 30 secs, there it is..Ready..

Question about sequence

Post by Jerry »

Since I'm having no luck getting the spoofer to run, I'd like to check if I'm doing things in the correct order.

Do I plug in the MJ before or after starting the software?

Does it matter when I click on the "Enable Spoofer" check box? Do I have to reinsert the MJ each time I toggle this setting?

What do I put in the "Local MJ IP" window? The IP of the PC (DNS), the Gateway IP, the static IP of the cable modem? Something else?

There is a menu item on the MJ app that "restarts" the MJ (in the Advanced menu). Is that the same as reinserting the MJ for the purposes of getting the spoofer to function?

Does it matter which Proxy location I choose? Do I have to restart (or reinsert) the MJ each time I change the Proxy, or for that matter any Spoofer setting?

Might there be entires in my HOSTS file that could prevent Spoofer from working? (I noticed an entry in there "127.0.0.1 localhost").

The Spoofer seems to make entries in my HOSTS file that do not correspond to the MJ Proxy/IP information, as follows:
127.0.0.1 proxy1.phoenix.talk4free.com
127.0.0.1 proxy1.stlouis.talk4free.com
127.0.0.1 proxy1.memphis.talk4free.com
(The IP addresses don't match what's in the program).

Any other tips or suggestions?

Thanks!

I think your problems are not your firewall, or anything, but rather the mJ upgrade software that likely happened to you.

It's discussed here: http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/majo ... t1869.html

If you restore your hosts file to the original state (by removing all references to talk4free.com), the spoofer should be out of the picture. Alternatively, with the spoofer running, you could use Wireshark to see whether its requests are going to the correct IP/port, and whether valid responses are coming in.

The hosts file (note: not host file) is typically at C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts . I can't tell you what to put there because some other application may have made some entries that you need. On a fresh install of Windows, the file has some comments (lines beginning with #) and the single entry

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost

Just an observation here, but if anyone doesn't know where the hosts file is, and didn't change it when they added the spoofer, the spoofer can't work.

Changes to "hosts" made by spoofer

Post by myjunk »

Hey redrose, have you not checked out the latest spoofer? It sure does edit the hosts file on it's own.
But if av011 hasent used 1 of the last versions that does the editing for you, then perhaps thats why av011 MJ has failed to work.
On the other side of the issue is: I have tried 3 versions of spoofer, have edited the hosts file myself and yet I still cant seem to get MJ to block or spoof.

Just a note to look out for this

Post by myjunk »

G'day,

I don’t know how much of this is specific to my PC, OS and or the fact that I use MJ on a laptop while traveling the country. I have been trying to get the Caller ID Spoofer to run for a few days now. I think I have identified a few idiosyncrasies and bugs. First a bit about my hardware. Acer 9810 20” laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T7200, 2 GB ram, Windows XP pro ver 5.1 build 2600 SP2, Sprint Sanyo 7050, Sprint Novatel S720 aircard, Emerson $5.95 handset from Wal-mart plugged into MJ.

Using MJ Caller ID Spoofer v1.1s (1.1.0.0)
I select a MagicJack Proxy from the drop down list (ie proxy1.Atlanta.talk4free.com)
then select “Apply Changes” it inserts an IP ( ie 67.90.138.70) for that Proxy.
I then select a new Proxy and again Apply Changes, what you would expect happens, the proxy and proxy IP have changed. Now lets again select the first proxy we selected and without hitting apply changes, what I see happens is the proxy ip changes to the local IP (127.0.0.1). It would seem that once you return to a previously chosen proxy, that proxy selection will result the same showing 127.0.0.1 in the proxy IP. It only seems to happen when I return to a previously chosen proxy. You can stop this from happening by removing the proxy addresses from the “Hosts” file.
What I did find out while changing from one proxy to the next going through the whole list is that not all proxy’s will allow the Spoofer to work, in fact most did not allow it to work, however there are some that do allow the Spoofer to work. I don’t know if this has anything to do with what proxy MJ is connecting to but suspect it might have a great deal to do with it.
I hope I have enlightened and helped some of you.

If you uncheck "Enable Spoofer" and recheck it then it appears to set the magicjackproxy ip correctly.

This is an awesome program thanks for posting it steveostop!

I'm curious if any one else that may be using the LA server has noted the spoofer as not working since the latest upgrade. I found that after the upgrade came down, I was no longer able to spoof. The real kicker is, even downgrading, deleting the profile data, and trying again I'm not able to spoof successfully anymore.

At times MJ will make the call with the spoofed number, but no audio is present on either side of the line but most times I run the spoofer I'm simply not able to make a call at all - the softphone showing as trying and going back almost immediately to ready to call.

I've read through this thread as well as the other running in this forum and haven't seen anything that fixes the issue, further it seems from the lack of posts not all users are experiencing the issue and that it might be determined by which proxy a particular user might be going through. Myself going through the Los Angeles server, I'm curious if any one else might be experiencing the same issue.. or if another LA user can confirm that they are able to make a successful spoofed call

Nope... I'm having the same problem. I've tried other proxy servers, as well, without success. When I tried going back to a saverd earlier version, before the upgrade, I'm forced to register which then foists the upgrade on my machine. No 'spoof for me! Reading between the lines of one of Stewart's posts, I suspect he's working on something, but till then I have to use my "little bundle of joy", as is, upgrade and all.
