NOOB?? FRUSTRATION SETS IN..WILL NOT WORK

Post by crash702 »

Received my Mj 5 hours ago. i HAVE BEEN READING FOR 4 1/2 HOURS ON MAKING THIS THING WORK. I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTERS AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME THIS THING IS DRIVING ME NUTS!! My system is custom build AMD X2 5600 @ 2.9 2 gigs ram vista X64 ultimate. First I had to settle for a California area code because there were none left in good ol Las Vegas. So, Cali it is. I plugged in and software loaded, lil blue light on but nothing...NO dial tone. I have updated and the vista fix, I have tried 3 different phones, I have tried 5 different USB ports. And one is a powered HP USB port and every time is the same result...NO dial tone. I can use the soft dial pad and call, it just rings my cell phone, no voice available, can't talk. And I am at the stage of seeing if this thing can fly...lol...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your softphone say "Ready to Call" and display your phone number?

I'm not sure I can answer your question, but is anyone else sure MagicJack even works in the 64bit version of Vista? IIRC, the 64bit version has much less driver support than the 32bit version.

Does it work using a computer headset, instead of a phone? (Select 'swtich to headset' from the MJ menu.) If you don't have a headset, try with a mic and speakers (remote party may hear some echo). If you don't have a mic, call a number where you can just listen, e.g. 301-936-1212.

When a line-powered corded phone is plugged into MJ, and you press number buttons, do you hear tones? Do the numbers appear in the softphone window?

Is the phone directly plugged into the magicjack? if not, did you disconnect your line from the outside world?

Here is a test app.
Make sure you close down the magicjack.exe before using it. It can test ringing, cid, record your voice, have it played back to you, etc.
