MJ dialing out each morning
First of all, I have been running MJ for 2 months now with only minor issues, it's brilliant, the quality is great and I got rid of my Vonage which I'd had for over 3 years. I have followed the advice and suggestions on this site and now have my MJ running on an HP thin client. Thanks to stroths, vaham and many others for the excellent info.
Anyway to my issue, a couple of days ago I noticed that my MJ had been trying to dial out to the following number 731 2139 each morning from 6:40 am to 6:50, has anyone else seen this happen and does anyone know how to stop it happening ? I thought of contacting MJ Support, from my experience with them I knew it would be useless to even try, so I thought I'd try here....

Man that weird...!!!!!!!!!.
.mmmmmmmmmmmmm.. wondering how MJ could be dialing out, unless a hacker broke in and took over your pc.. How interesting.. However I don't know if this will help but this is what I have set-up to run on a daily basis.
(1). I use something called PsTools to reboot my PC on a daily basis, to get a fresh IP address and to refresh my pc, this can be done automatically, here is the setup:
Download a set of programs called PsTools.
You can downloads pstools from http://www.sysinternals.com
Unzip them to this directory.
create a Directory called:
C:\Program Files\PSTools
create a batch file call xpRestart.bat (If you are using xp)
batch file content should look something like this:
@echo off
psshutdown.exe -c -f -r \\full computer name -t 30
PsTools Version in this package: 2.44
Switch explanation for psshutdown.exe
-c = Allow the shutdown to be aborted by the interactive user.
-f = Forces running applications to close.
-r = Reboot after shutdown.
-t = Specifies countdown in seconds until shutdown (default is 20) or
the time of shutdown (in 24 hour notation)
Schedule xpRestart.bat in your Task Manager to run everyday.
I am not sure this will work for your dial out problem, but at least if u set this up to shut down and restart at the times when your PC tries to dial out this may help u find out what the problem might be.
(2) Another thing u can try is Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1.
a) Create a capture file to see what's going on with your network.
You can download the monitor from here: http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/deta ... laylang=en
Good Luck...

I just called that number using the area code 561 and all I get is some loud screeching sound then silence and after aprox 20 seconds the line disconnects.
Sounds like it's tied to some computer/fax machine or something. Why this number is showing up on your SP log, I have no idea.
Maybe it is ET calling his spaceship
I would sit in front of my computer at the times when this seems to be recorded and see what happens.

I tried the number also and I guess it sorta sounds like a fax though not really. I don't have a fax machine connected and I don't have any fax (winfax) s/w installed. I'm going to move MJ to my laptop and see if it still happens.
Getting up at 6:30 in the morning to see it happen sounds like going too far
. Mornings and i are not the best of friends especially at the weekend.
Stupid question time, could it possibly be the phone causing this and NOT MJ ??? I have a Vtech DS61111 DECT 6 cordless phone

Keep us posted as to what you find out about this prob.....real curious as to what is causing that number to show up on your SP.
If you think it's your phone, try unpluging it overnight while leaving MJ and your computer running. If the number still shows up on your SP, then it's something wierd about your computer.

rictic You mentioned in your earlier post that you have some software called TeamViewer, that software is desktop sharing and remote control, from my understanding of the software, Could it be possible that someone is logging into your machine and using your desktop to dial out on magicjack without you knowing about it ? ????????. If i were you I would turn off Teamviewer and take it out of your startup, restart your machine and see what happens.
Let me know what u think.

Donno about ET, but this is pretty wierd that a phone number keeps showing up on his SP. This is a first of this kind.
If it turns out to be that his MJ is doing this, would be interesting to find out why this number that seems to go nowhere and doesn't ring thru to someones telephone. Also very strange that it does it only once each morning at a specific time.

Well I guess I need to apologize to MJ, ET is hiding in my phone NOT my MJ. I removed the phone from MJ last night and checked the call log this morning. No outgoing calls made. Maybe I just didn't sleep-walk last night or maybe lonestarmagic IS in cohoots with ET. Now can you imagine the telephone conversation I'm going to have with the Tech Support people at Vtech... I'll leave it to the imagination....

that is a fax machine or computer waiting for something to be sent.

Ummmm......... Me thinks ya need to make an exception for this. Quite the anomaly. You can always go back to bed ya lazy shirt.
If "something" was continually trying to call out from my computer, definitely would make the effort to see who/what it is.
I check my call log daily and clear it if nothing abnormal appears.

Re: phone number
Since rictic said that it did not happen with the phone unplugged, I think that rules out a fax or comp trying to dial out. Must be the phone itself, but we shall see after he plugs in another phone.peaddyman wrote:that is a fax machine or computer waiting for something to be sent.
........... continuing saga will be continued tomorrow morning................. same time .................. same place .................. same channel
Hendersonmike... OK I'll get up early in the morning and see what is happening
.This is getting intriguing and yes I do want to get to the bottom of all this, I just don't understand what could be the cause and why it would suddenly start to happen after a number of weeks with no problems (except for the no audio issue on the Thin Client) with the same phone. Well, if you don't hear anything from me tomorrow then you know that ET has got me.

Nothing exciting to report this morning... I connected a chorded GE slimline to the MJ and this morning I got up at 6:30 just so I could sit and watch (thanks Hendersonmike
) and we got a big NOTHING. No dialing out, so around 6:45 I swapped over phones for the Vtech chordless and still nothing. So the plan now is to leave the Vtech connected, get up nice and early
and run Net Mon and see what happens. Unless all this is one of lonestarmagic's Freaky Phone Calls (which it could be), we are going to get to the bottom of this one way or another......

I was going to suggest doing that if the 2nd. phone produced no call out but ya beat me to it. See what getting up early did to you? Your brain cells got up early and got to work.rictic wrote: So the plan now is to leave the Vtech connected, get up nice and earlyand run Net Mon and see what happens.
Humm I am not familiar with that Vtech but does it have a redial on busy feature? If so perhaps something corrupted the memory in the the Vtech which is doing this. If it does turn out that the phone is the problem then removing the battery from it and unplugging the base unit and removing it's backup battery if it has one may perform a reset and clear the issue.

Good point... I will check once I get home tonight and do a reset on the phone.VaHam wrote:Humm I am not familiar with that Vtech but does it have a redial on busy feature? As if we don't have enough to worry about, there was a news story not too long ago about viruses (virii?) being introduced via OEM's. Apparently, employees were bringing their infected iPods and other hardware to the workplace and connecting them to their computers. The big offender, no surprise, was China.
I did a Google search, but couldn't come up with anything relevant. I would be surprised if this had anything to do with your issue, but the last post made me think of it.
Come to think of it, I never met a conspiracy theory I didn't like. It wouldn't surprise me if this "news blackout" wasn't a vast cover up to protect the Chinese to whom we're in so much debt, to keep from losing face.
