headset and mj

Hi,

I have had MJ for 2 mo. now with my 9yr old uniden and have had no problems except for incoming caller id. I haven't had the ambition to fix it yet.

But, for work, I talk on the phone for many hrs per day. My neck hurts. In my husband's cast-offs I found a plantronics corded headset called vista. I think it's made to plug into a corded telephone. I plugged the plantronics phone jack into the MJ and tried it. I could call out using the softphone and hear perfectly, but people can't hear me. Now, the headset could be broken, but, I don't know--has anyone else had success with this kind of set up?

Take a look at the plug.. The modular plugs of the headset and the base cord are a different size, and the base cord, the bigger of the two, is only using the two middle conductors for "R" and "T" (ring and tip, or pos and neg) these are you phone connections..The headphone jack is quite different.. It uses all four conductors 2 for transmit (speaking), and 2 for recieving (hearing), Needless to say, there is a lot of difference in the use of the plug on the end.. One large and one slightly smaller. Not interchangeable, yet, using the spring cord from a handset can be used sometimes for the mounting cord does work, since the middle two conductors are all that is needed for that connection.

I think I just confused myself... what the hell did I just say??

I'm not sure what you just said, but I think the gist of it is that it probably won't work. I think I will change my plan--buy one of the phones listed on this forum as being compatible, get a cheap cordless phone headset and sell my husband's plantronics thingy on ebay.

I have a head set like you're talking about on my desk phone at work. It cannot replace the phone itself by plugging it into the wall jack. Rather, it replaces the handset. I've unplugged my handset and replaced it with the headset. Some headsets like this require an amplifier and/or a switch to go back and forth between the handset and the headset. In my case I just always use the headset at work. As you already surmised, your set up with NOT work. You can however plug a corded phone into the MJ and then replace the phone's handset with the headset. That SHOULD work.
