What is the setup between MJ voice mail and the phone answering machine? Can both be on or do you shut the phone answering machine off. You can't disable MJ voice mail.

The MJ voicemail is set to answer at 4 rings. As far as I know there is no changing this, however, you can set your answering machine to pick up at 3 rings to bypass the MJ voicemail.

Uniden Cordless has Toll saver, 2, 4, 6 rings.

Thanks, this is my first post here, this is the info I wanted though.I hope that in future versions that we will be able to disable the MJ voicemail feature. I don't really want to have my answer machine pick up on 2 rings to bypass this feature but I see that it is my only option for now. I just got my MJ, so far so good, the call quality seems to be excellent for me so far.

I just got my MJ, so far so good, the call quality seems to be excellent for me so far. I do have a question about this board , is it always this slow? I can go anywhere on my computer, but when I get here it just crawls on loading pages, is this the way it usually is or is today just a bad day?

I agree with you on the voicemail. I'd rather not have it at all than have to use the MJ one. I have virtual voicemail from youmail.com and am trying to find a way to use that service (and have the line still ring locally first).

Also agree with you on the slooooooowness of the forum. Reminds me of my dial-up days

I'm a huge YouMail fan too. I actually set my MagicJack to forward all calls to my cellphone which has YouMail on it, so I never have to deal with MagicJack's voicemail.

It has a downside though. I wind up having to call everyone back from the MagicJack so I don't use up cell minutes.

But it has a great upside in that I get text message alerts when I wouldn't have before, and users get my personal greetings vs. the default MagicJack greeting, and I have all my voicemails from everyone in a single mailbox.

It would much cooler if MagicJack allowed third-party voicemail access through conditional call forwarding (where users could set the number of rings) or even did something really cool and made YouMail a choice or default when people get the MagicJack.

You can record your own greetings for MJ voicemail too. You need to use option 0 - "mailbox options", and then option "4" - "record your temporary greetings". That will replace the default MJ one.

What i was talking about though was the ability to record different greetings for different callers. My work callers hear my formal greeting, and my friends are get a specific greeting tailored to them. I couldn't figure out how to do that for MagicJack, and it doesn't look there's a set of keys I can press to get that option. The other cool thing I'd like to do is upload wav files as greetings - can you do that with MagicJack voicemail? I have a cool one I created with music and a "we're not available right now" I'd like to use, and it doesn't sound very good when you play it and try to record it back over the phone.

4 rings is way too low for VoIP,6 rings would be a much better number if it stays fixed and it's also what I would consider to be the minimum for computer to wake up.

I have a feeling at times that one or two rings have passed before my system ever wakes up and rings the phone the first time, the next ring is caller ID and by the time I'm picking up the phone the call is already off to voice mail.

I'm now grabbing the phone on the very first ring and guess what,It seem to work better on incoming calls.

MJ needs a fix now!!
