I’ve had my MagicJack for a few months now. If I would have waited a little longer and read more reviews in forums, I probably would not have purchased it – I definitely would not have signed up for two years.
My MagicJack functions OK on my homebuilt Vista SP1 system. I can make and receive calls. Voice Quality is usually good and seems to have improved since I did the little resistor trick to enable caller id on my cordless phone (see tricks and tips). Maybe that’s coincidence.
My Issues:
1. 616 was a pending area code when I purchased – now it has disappeared from the list altogether – very disappointing for me. – I’m not interested in Grand Central - I WANT MY AREA CODE!
2. I have to wait until Kaspersky Internet Security scans my startup files or the “jack” and Kaspersky lock up until I unplug the darn thing.
3. I hate the ads and popup interface just like the rest of you – especially when I am trying to watch HD TV on media center.
4. Since the last upgrade, my sound device default changes from speakers to my SPDIF device every time I disconnect.
Conclusion: A great idea that still needs A LOT of work. With all of the issues floating around out there, it’s very unfortunate that customer service has been hard to find and not very helpful when you do reach them. Poor access to customer service and repeated poor responses to problems will be the thing that will ruin it for all of us.
