Anyone having issues using softphone / ATA as of 8/27/08?

Post by trihfh »

Hi All,

I just received my MagicJack tonight and proceeded to obtain the necessary login information.

I installed Xlite on two computers and configured them, using the walkthrough sticky as a guide. Both clients were able to connect and authorize, and were "ready" to make calls. However, neither computer was able to actually make (or receive) a call. I'm pretty certain that I configured everything correctly... Is anyone else having problems with their softphone and/or ATA? Has MJ implemented some new protection scheme?

I'd really appreciate your responses... I'd like to confirm that MJ is still working with other software / devices before I bite the bullet and buy an ATA :)

Won't work with multiple logins. If you want to use it on 2 machines, either get another MJ w/ different credentials or install a PBX like pbxinaflash.com or http://www.nch.com.au/pbx/index.html if you are stuck on Windoze.

Seems like ATA is the route for you. Plug it in to your existing phone wiring to have dialtone on all your current jacks. YMMV if you have DSL piggybacked on your pots line

Having 2 softphones running at the same time could be causing the problem so try it with just 1 running. I do have softphone on several computers but only run at a time.

If you would like post your softphone settings we could check what you have as it took me sometime to get it right.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I was a little unclear in my original post... I tried 2 different computers separately, at different times[s], mainly because I couldn't get the first one working so I wanted a stab on another machine.

I'll post up my configuration later tonight as I'm at work right now... but it's good to know that it's still working for people and that it's just me :)

Found the problem. After discovering my credentials, I initially attempted to use Sipgate for the iPhone to make a call. Well, it looks like Sipgate retained the connection to the SIP Proxy even after my application on the iPhone closed. That was what prevented my X-Lite from working correctly.

I tried X-Lite again tonight and, to my surprise, it worked! Then I closed it, tried using Sipgate again (unsuccessfully... doesn't look like it supports magicjack SIP), and then tried X-Lite again, where X-Lite failed just like the previous night.

Thanks for the help guys :) I'm off to do some research on PAP2's before I pick one up :)
