Help with my Thin Client 5700t - Won't read 2gb DOM
So, I purchased my thin client and immediately ordered a 512mb of ram and a 2gb DOM from Transcend. The 512mb ram worked like a charm, no problem there.
My problem is that my thin client doesn't want to recognize the 2gb DOM. I inserted it in and I get the nice bright blue light, but when I check in the bios, it reads 0. I checked to see if the thin client would read the 192mb that came with it and it does. I've tried messing with the jumpers (get the red and blue light) and it won't turn on with those settings. Anyone know if maybe there is a 1gb limit to the 5700t? Is there some hidden setting that I'm missing? Or do you think I received a defective chip?
Thanks!

I dont know how much this will help, but when I first got my transcend 1gb DOM I had some problems getting it working as well. I think the tiny jumper that comes on the DOM is a little sensitive to which way you use it (top vs. bottom). I am not 100% sure which way eventually worked for me, but I had to try the jumper a few ways on those four prongs.
It wasn't marked as clearly on the PCB as the 192mb module that came in my TC, which added to my confusion as well.
Hopefully if you turn the jumper upside down and try it again a few times it might work.

This is probably going to be even less help, but...
My Transcend DOM is 1gb rather than 2. For what it's worth, I didn't even check to see if it had jumpers before installing it, so it went in right out of the box. On mine there is definitely no blue or other color led in evidence, which surprised me as I had read that others had experienced a bright blue led light upon installation. Maybe there are a couple of variations of the same module, dunno.
Is it at all possible that the DOM is not properly seated, maybe pressed in far enough to light up the diode, but not enough to register the memory. Hopefully someone with more DOM knowledge will be by shortly.

I've been running into a similar problem.In my case i stuck the 2GB DOM and it shows up only
as 1GB (Available memory 1002MB) in the BIOS.So i think maybe 2GB is not supported ?
No lights on my DOM as well.
Joshness - If its showing 0 MB in the BIOS that could mean u have inserted the DOM incorrectly.Happened a few times with me too.
Make sure that you align the slots on the DOM correctly to the motherboard.Need to be very careful with that step.It showed 0 for me but
after i removed it and reinserted very carefully (like 3 times !) it showed up on the BIOS.BUT only 1002 MB so i think 2 GB DOM is not supported on T5700.
All the people here on T5700 and who have responded are using 1GB DOM so far.
I dont see any jumpers on the DOM.
I'm using this 2GB Transced DOM http://ec.transcendusa.com/product/Item ... 2GDOM44H-S

I bought the same one that you did, and the jumpers are on the opposite side of the connection... there should be four prongs. I've tried so many ways to plug it in, but I just can't get it to recognize it. I have no problem getting it to recognize the 192mb that came with the TC. At this point, i'll be happy to even get it to recognize 1gb. I've actually ordered a 44pin ide cable to try to hook it up to an old laptop drive that I have laying around. I want to see if I can even get it to read anything else other than that 192mb.
It could be a faulty DOM.I'm returning the 2 GB and will get the 1GB hopefully that will work.
Read somewhere that it could be a limitation of the BIOS and that it recognizes partitions of 1 GB or(2GB?!) only so with the hard disk you would be better off installing XP on your laptop on the HDD and then connect the HDD to the T5700.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Good Luck.

I splerged and got the Transcend 4GB.free2talk wrote:It could be a faulty DOM.I'm returning the 2 GB and will get the 1GB hopefully that will work.

I didn't fuss with jumpers, just plugged it in.
Seems to work fine, but I have not been able to flash the HP XPe image on it without an activation error after several reboots.
I am trying to manually set the partition to 800 Mb and try again.
Well, I'm returning the DOM. Here's some good news. I received in the 44pin ide cable and hooked it up to an old 6gb drive I had laying around. The computer recognized it no problem. After much frustration I was finally able to get TinyXP to install from a USB flash drive. If anyone needs the utility to do it you can find it here

Yes, it shows 6gb in the BIOS on the 5700free2talk wrote:Joshness,
Thats great news.I have a 30GB laptop harddisk lying around so will try with that.
Does it show 6GB in the BIOS on your 5700 ?
Also can you do a small steps doc - what to do first kind of thing for installation of xp beast ?
Why did you go for Tiny Beast and not XPE ?
Thanks
I picked TinyXP over XPE because TinyXP is a full version windows minus a few things that aren't needed. You are limited to what you can do with XPE. I'm currently Running NZB-O-Matic+ and utorrent on the 5700. So the 5700 is acting as a phone and file Server. I actually have a 500gb external hooked up to it right now. I remotely connect to it via TeamViewer (awesome software)
Here's a cruddy little walkthrough, if you need something clarified i'll do my best.
===========
Prepping the USB
===========
1.) Get TinyXP Rev 09 (that is the latest release and so far I've had no problems with it and magicjack)
2.) Extract the ISO to your hard-drive
3.) In the readme file that comes with TinyXP it describes different types of installations you can do. I think there are like 6 choices or something. Based upon your choice, navigate to the ISO folder and extract the one you want.
4.) Download USB MultiBoot 10 - http://www.msfn.org/board/redirect.php? ... 6id%3D1054
5.) Insert your USB flash drive and Run USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd
6.) When you reach the Format menu it doesn't really matter which choice you use. I used the PetOUSB. Just make sure you enable LBA(Fat 16x). This should format the USB for you, close the formatting program to continue the process
7.) On the Main Menu You'll need to do the following:
7a.) If Choice 0 isn't set to USB-Stick go ahead and enter 0 and change it.
7b.) Choose 1 and enter the folder that contains the iso you extracted from TinyXP (When you get prompted (multiple times), if you
want to use the modified file over the original, Choose Yes)
7c.) Choose 2 and enter the drive letter of your USB stick
8.) Choose 3 to create the USB Boot Disk
9.) When asked if you want to copy Source to USB Drive Choose Yes, You want to copy XP + Extras
10.) When asked if you want to Change Migrate.info, Choose No
============
Installing Windows
============
1.) Makre sure you plug in the USB Flash Drive.
2.) After you have your drive installed, boot up the Computer and go into Bios and change the Boot Order to USB then Flash
3.) You'll eventually get to a bootscreen with different options. Use whatever one you want. I had to use the non-automated one due to my needing to re-partition the existing drive.
4.) Windows should be completely installed and ready for you to load whatever you want.
DOM Hanging TC
Try not just turning the power off but actually remove the power connector. I suspect that if the bios detects a faulty ide (like when an MBR is incorrect) it stops the boot saying the drive is invalid. This happened to me even though I had the bios set to disable ATA and enable USB. It seemed to ignore that and failed to boot from USB. I found by accident that removing the power completely prior to rebooting allowed the system to actually boot from the USB fine. Not sure why removing the power fixes this but it does.
