notice of upgrades before taking down a server would be nice
Woke up to discover I cant call out but I can recieve calls. Got on the chatline with MJ. After unplugging my device and upgrading and all that, support says they are doing upgrades on my site server. I'm OK with upgrades, I'm even ok with site maintenance leaving me without phone service for a short time. I am not ok with not being notified first. It makes it all suspicious ya know? What company would take down a server without notifying the customer first? I mean that is just basic customer service. I mean they could have sent an email so I wouldn't be surprised. Or, I dont know, maybe do it in the middle of the night where it wont affect me. I'm thinking they didn't have an answer for me and gave me the "server is down" routine to buy time.
Otherwise, great product

It's pathetic if you ask me and we must be on the same server because we can't make any outbound calls either this morning. Im actually quite teed off at them, I've never heard of doing maintenance on something as crucial as the telephone system where by you leave your customers with no way to make any phone calls at all. I would have expected them to put a part time server in place while they do the maintenance or to transfer accounts to another system temporarily so that the service remains undisrupted for their customers.
It's things like this that will earn them a bad name in my opinion and one that customers will remember over all the other times where the system has worked great.
However heres the baffling part, it's only on direct dial long distance and local, but not toll free numbers. I can call our office on the 800 line and get through to them just fine, but when dialing the area code and number, I too get dropped back to the dialtone after 17 sec to 40 seconds. So I guess they must have gotten their 800 toll free diaout system working again while regular service is still borked [/sarcasm]

What makes me suspicious is how dead chat told you to do all those time-consuming things, and then told you the server was down. Was that just another guess? Does their script say "try all these things, if it doesn't work, tell them the server is down?"shardoin wrote:It makes it all suspicious ya know?
You can point to a different server. It might be a good way to workaround a problem with a regional server. Described here http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/post23176.html#23176
There's only one thing I haven't verified concerning that procedure. When you make or accept a call, MJ opens another connection to a host named "vms1" (not "proxy1"). I haven't verified whether that is sent to your client as an IP address from the proxy you connected to. If so, it should be fine. If not, this procedure would need more steps about how to override point to a different vms1 server. (I suspect the instruction about which vms1 server to connect to comes from the proxy1 server you're connected to. So, I doubt it's an issue.).
