Canadian Numbers? Ya right?
My sources still tell me that there is a huge problem bringing Canadian exchanges to the MJ system.
Sources report that the expected fee for those exchanges will be so high that the inventor has had this issue sent back to the Canadian rep for MJ numerous times.
The fee is expected to be about $120.00 per year.
When you take that amount along with the cost of the MJ basic service, that total is very similar to what you can already get in Canada using the cheaper voip services. Where I am, you can get a basic voip service with all the same features as the MJ for $9.95 per month. That also includes number portability at no charge.
I hear that the inventor dislikes that high cost and by charging those high fees for Canadian exchanges will KILL the MJ in Canada.

Still no Canadian exchanges
Boy did my last post cause a few problems. It seems the issue has gone back to the Canadian rep 5 times now, and sources say that the inventor is getting a little upset with this huge delay.
It seems that the Canadian rep wants to make money on this deal too and there is little to make.
Along with the terrible Canadian customer service, who knows where this will end up. Maybe in court?
What do you all think about this big delay?
Maybe if get some serious posts here, some pressure may be put on this Canadian rep.

There was a price posted on the Canadian Order page. It was $59.99 for a Canadian number. I see that this ad has been removed from that particular page recently. Wonder why????caraudio wrote:120$ per year is WAY too much.
At this rate I will be keeping my USA number.
A one time 120$ fee to get you number, I wouldnt mind at all.
Anyway, as usual canadian will be ripped off.
We always pay more and get poor service compared to USA.
But, if you go to this page (link below) it still shows a price of $59.99 about half way down the page. Problem for me is that when I was thinking of buying a MagicJack, they promised a free Canadian number for Canadians when they became available. If I had known it would cost another $59.99, I would not have bought a MagicJack.

It's been said "www.themagicjack.ca" is only a reseller. Also disappointed free canadian number change really $60
I was very disappointed as well. I have had the magic jack for a year. Patiently waiting for the canadian number. Then one day I see it on the website but it says $59 dollars/year for it.
I actually sent them an email asking what happened to free Canadian number when they became available. The reply was
QUOTE
Yes it is 59.99 per year and that is because it costs money to get the number and the 911 service and to maintain the service. It is less than 5.00 per month and now you have a phone that you can receive calls from your friends and family and of course call all over Canada and the USA for free.

They are saying it costs more than they thought and if you want it you have to pay $59 a year for it . It's true it's not that much. It cost's me more than that per month with BELL.
As soon as they get it back on I will look at what they are offering and probably get it, at least for 1 year to try it.

I am now a www.freephoneline.ca customer
You can get a canadian phone number for free to use with their software
I now have my 418 Quebec city phone number
For 50$ they give you the SIP credentials to use your own ATA (I tried to figure out how to get it by myself like I did with MJ, no luck, they are using different credentials for their software)
I paid the 50$ and it works fine
The 50$ is ONE time fee to get the credentials, no more payment.
I am still sometime using my magicjack account on my ATA.

Update on Canadian numbers
I had an email exchange with Mr. Borilow and Victor from MJ Canada.
This was a very interesting exchange.
For the record, Borislow states that Victor is NOT an authorized reseller of the MJ.
Also, He says that there are no plans to bring Canadian numbers onto the system.
On the other hand, Victor claims that he is awaiting the inventor to authorize Canadian exchanges. How can this be when the owner/inventor claims one thing, and the Canadian reseller claims another.
This may make some sense as for about 1 week Victor did provide some Canadian numbers on the MJ system. I had one, I know.
A few days later, poof, they vanished.
I suspect that Dan shut Victor down.
It is too bad that they cannot get their collective acts together. It is the customer that loses, and we are losing.
We will see what happens soon, but I suspect that there will be NO Canadian numbers soon.

cheap Can. DIDS
I use voip.ms with a toll-free number and forward it to my magicjack number
$1.49/month + 2.9 cents/min
or they have canadian numbers for most areas
$1.99/month + 1.49 cents/min
this is for incoming only, of course, outgoing is still thru mj
I deposited $25 which will cover me for ???
still have $23.?? left in my account after 1 month
so anyone in NA can call me, if I think I'll be on the phone for a while, just call them back
If you can find anything cheaper, I's be interested
I also use an ATA, the call quality is better than my cell(soon to be disconnected) about the same as a land-line(YRMV)
the usb device was sometimes problematic, although, this was not the fault of the mj device, but due to computer/usb/software issues and poor internet service.

BBB
I have just placed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, I suggest you do the same, the little ignorant man named Victor can not get away with this, he is a rude man just trying to take our money.
Magicscam is a perfect name for this especially where Canadians are concerned!

You gave the world Michael J. Fox and Celine Dion. And, while the US is gracious enough to share the Great Lakes amongst 7 states, you allow Ontario to hog them all.
On the other hand, you gave the world the foghorn, ginger ale and the retractable beer carrying handle. So, I guess that evens things out.

When I bought my MJ a year ago, Victor's site said that Cdn numbers would be extra cost. I think it relates to Dan not wanting to pay the extra required to expand the service for marginal returns. I know many Vonage users who would switch in a moment if there were any credibility to their Canadian offering.
For the fun of it....Keith
