Serial number 000000 zeros, Not Working

Post by invinciblesingh »

after 3 months of service, my magicjack stopped working couple of days back and there was no blue light either.
So as stated on the support website, i used the recovery software. That fixed the blue light problem. BUT,

The magic still does not work. Here is what it does.

As soon as you insert the drive, it shows th splash of "One minute...blah" for couple of seconds and opens a browser window to http://www.magicjack.com/magicfix/?code=1000
THe registration or softphone never shows up.

Options i have tried

1. Format the drive and insert it back after a while. It shows downloading... and then redirects the browser again.
2.Upgrade utility , it shows "LucKy You..upgrading.." but does the same again.
3. Different machines, as well as diff USB ports, same problem.
4. Forcing magicjack.exe like "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe" /foreground /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot "F:\magicJack"
It opens the app, but says disconnected and number as 0000000000, all zeroes.
5. The recover software also shows the SN as all zeroes.

There are 2 drives in my computer as E: Magicjack and F: as Phone.

Here are their contents.
E:
autorun.exe
autorun.ico
AUTORUN.INF
UDLL.dll

F:\magicjack
autorun.exe
autorun.ico
autorunu.exe
Upgrade

I doubt there is something wrong as it shows zeroes. is there any way we could change that.
Could some one please help on this...I would appreciate that.

MJ Support Staff has given up on this also

Post by ppmaster »

After 7 1/2 hours doing live chat with the MJ support staff, they have finally given up on resolving this. You wouldn't belive all of the hoops they had me jumping thru. They are going to send out a new MJ unit. Hopefully this will resolve it. I will post here on the results of using a new MJ unit when I get it.

13 hours of chat...and the only thing that got me help after getting past the second level of help was to threaten. They claim to be the highest, I asked them if I told them I was going to bomb the place/hunt them down/or some other thing, who would they report it to? I tried several different times so I picked one at a time till I got higher or at least someone who knew a bit more. There is always someone higher.
I have had SO many problems with support and after some MORON named Benjamin ported my working number to a replacement MJ for the one that wasnt working I had to look up my serial number. After I told the support person how to find device manager this what you do:
click on the plus sign next to Disk Drives
Choose the YMAX MagicJack USB Device
right click on it and choose properties
click on the details tab
in the drop down menu choose Device Instance Path.
The serial number is at the end of the numbers starting with A9210.....

This is on Vista, to get to device manager you need to go to Start/ settings/control panel/ system and on the left is Devie manager.
I do not reccomend this product to anyone who can not get help or knows how to troubleshoot on thier own. Customer service for the most part sucks and when they can not help you they will disconnect you.

OK, everything is working now

After chatting with support, they agreed to send me a replacement unit with an RMA auth number. They won't charge for the new unit if the old one is returned within two weeks. I tried the new unit and it worked without a hitch. FINALLY. Also, the sound quality on the new unit is far better than the old one. Maybe they have made some changes in the new units.

How old was your old unit? There may be newer version but they made a major change in the hardware that included hardware echo cancellation amongst other things in the period immediately following March 8th of this year.

OK - In that case (little play on words) mine is staying in the case. Every time I open something like the MJ housing I end up cracking something and regardless of what any American Indian says it is never "A Good Day To Be Pissed Off" !!! That might have actually been "A good day to die" but I have been know to take liberties.

Ha ha...! good reason!

if you'd like to see what my insides looks like (the Magicjack, that is :) )
look at this post

I link to scans of the board, both sides.

someone else has scans showing Rev 3.0 ... v1.0

My unit was over a year old. The new unit is far superior in voice quality, no breaking up and no echo's. Much, much better. If you have a unit over a year old, I would suggest contacting MJ and asking to trade your old unit in.

start up regedit.exe, and browse down to:

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\DeviceClasses\{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}
Expand that out. You should see a key with the name "Prod_Magicjack". Your serial number is part of that key. It will be between two # signs.

So, if yours said:

Code: Select all

##?#USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev_2.00#A921234567890&0#...
your serial number would be: A921234567890

PPmaster,

If you have ever talked to the MagicJack folks and can say "trade your old one in for a new one" with a straight face - Well you are eligible for Ripley's Believe It Or Not record book of extreme optimists.

No insult intended but those people won't give you a new one if yours is broken much less an older model. I tried what you are suggesting when they came out with the new version - back in March 8th 2008 - the replacement cost me $39 dollars plus shipping.

I'm wondering, my registry entry says YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev_2.00 but the hardware, board, has Rev 3.0 written on it. (Rev 3.0 ... v1.3)

why the conflict?

OH!... by the way, with XP SP3 the registry location is ...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}

I guess you are to tired to do what your error message says, CONTACT MJ SUPPORT!! So after a good night sleep and when you are wide awake, I suggest you do just that, before you get tired again..
