STILL WORKING STRONG AS MY ONLY PHONE SERVICE
HI all
Have not checked in in a while, just wanted to confirm that I've been using MJ now as my only phone service for about 2 months now, or I think it's been about 2 months. If not it's really close to 2 month now LOL
Anyhow it's been working great, I've ran my line from the MJ down to the box on the side of my house.
I've diconnected the phone companies stuff, of course I actually did this about 3 years ago because I was using vonage for the past 3 years and it was also great service.
Anyhow because I've already done this basically I just diconnected my vonage box and plugged the line into the MJ so it now powers my whole house.
Anyhow just wanted to confirm after my testing and using that I decided to cancel vonage and am not on MJ as my only phone service. I do have my cell phone for a backup.
I need to get a larger backup battery so that if power goes out my router, laptop, cable modem do not go out, but in anycase I just wanted to confirm I'm very happy with the service and hope to make it thru the year without any other phone service at all.
This would be a nice $800 dollar savings for normal phone service and a $400.00 saving off of my vonage service.
I will invest this in something else that actually creates income instead of wasting it.
Thanks MJ
I hope others can have the same success that I've had with this device.

I'll Toss in a Me Too!
I have had MJ now for at least three months. No complaints - works great. Still have ViaTalk - got it after SunRocket went down the tubes - will keep it until the contract runs out and then it is me and MJ.
What you think of me is none of my business.
The latest software upgrade and tweaking of win XP & MJ setting has gained me a VoIP phone that has better quality sound than my Vonage phone that I had for over two years.
The only minuses are 10 digit dialing for out going calls and I miss the voice mail light function on the V-Tech phone.
Hope MJ stays in business for a very long time!

Been my exclusive home phone since February..... Its gotten so reliable and good for me that forgot I have it... works flawlessly. I have MJ installed as a service, on XP Sp3 running 24/7 on an Intel PERL mobo Pentium 4 2.6ghz Hyper-thread PC via ethernet direct to the router.
10 digit dialing I am almost used to now...
My PC is my main PC and runs Mozy, BitTorrent, PeerGuardian, SyncBack, Itunes, and acts as my main file storage and Data backup on my network in addition to MJ. I have four hard drives in the case and three more external drives via FireWire. 2 gigs Ram, Audigy sound, Nvidia Video and dual Plextor DVDR which I use for DVD Backup via Nero or DVDShrink, etc... I have the second video output on the video card running to a projector so I can play movies from that PC via the DVD drives, file system, or Netflix... I do all this with the same PC that is running MJ. No problems or distortions.
I have ATT DSL Xtreme 6.0 running on a Dlink DSL Modem and a DIR-655 Dlink WirelessN router. There are two other desktops (one wired and one wireless) and a wireless MacBook sharing bandwidth.
Enjoying the music on hold feature they implemented...

Magic Jack Sunday Maintenance
Hi All,
I've been using Magic Jack for about 4 months now. I've had my ups and downs with it. And there were days I was ready to chuck it out the window. I've put it on a dedicated barebones 2.6GHz P4 PC running WinXP/SP3, spyware, anti-virus and that is it. I've plugged a cordless basestation into the MagicJack and it is my home phone (I do have a cell for back up).
My big beef is, and I hope Magic Jack Corporate reads this site, is STOP doing maintenance on Sunday afternoon! I was unable to make calls last Sunday (although I could recieve them). I spent 1.5 hours on line with "tech support", reconfiguring my router firewall, turning stuff on and off, come to find out my system was not the problem. MagicJack folks were adding "new features" to the system. My phone service finally returned at about 9:30pm.
It seems like I have the most problems on Sundays...anyone else notice this trend? Sunday is usually the day my family tries to reach me.
I like this product, I want it to succeed. I'm glad I've found this forum. but two things need to change to make us customers keep paying our $20 each year.
1. We need a phone number or an email address or some other way to contact MAGIC JACK when we have a serious issue. Chat is NOT the answer.
2. STOP DOING MAINTENANCE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON. The middle of the night might be a better option.
Thanks, looking forward to participating in this forum.

As a trained observer, I can't help notice, when the MagicJack works - it works well! ... no rocket science needed to see that HUH?
seriously though, if it works so well for most, or at least many, why are there problems for others?
could it be the configuration of some systems gives problems, or the ISP it's on?
it's really strange... you'd think if it works well for some (many) or most, that the issues would be few?
I'm hoping my Thin Client and MagicJack work as well as most of those posted in this thread, as I'm also planning on ditching MA BELL.
BTW- I should be testing the 8GB DOM on the T5710 shortly, I ordered it, on the 30-day trial.

My main and only phone since 5/28/2008. Got a bad connection about three times, solution call back. Wonder why others have problems. Former Landline bill average $35 a month you do the math.

Hi All. I just got a new Windows Vista computer and my MagicJack is working much better with it. I have not left it on when I'm gone, so I guess I need to give it a try. It kept crashing my Windows XP computer if I left it on. The new computer seems to make a huge difference. Of course, I didn't get it just to run the MJ!
But I will leave it on overnight and see what happens and let you know.
I think it depends on where you live, and your ISP, as to how good the service is. I've read where some cable companies have purposely slowed down bandwidth and got gigged for it by FTC. They're not supposed to be doing that, and it's hard to prove. MY ISP wanted to sell their VOIP, at a cost of $15.00 MORE than Vonage. I thanked them, and told them they need to do a lot better priice-wise. I'm still waiting to see if the quality of my current VOIP decreases!
I've had Vonage for quite a while and have been totally satisfied with them. I'm not ready to give them up just yet for the MJ, but I may down the road if it's more reliable than when I first got it.
I primarily use it when I'm working on my computer, or want to make a call and the first line is being used. With cell phones, and VOIP's, I can't see paying phone company prices anymore.
Hopefully MJ will improve with time, working out bugs, and keeping prices low.

Welcome to the 21st century! Most place have already converted to 10-digit dialing. In the last 3 states that I have lived in, I have had to 10-digit dial. That's been over 20 years now!!!Bendle wrote: 10 digit dialing I am almost used to now...![]()

On a side note, been a MJ user since Dec '07, it's my sole home phone (still have my mobile). Have had a few troubles here and there especially in the first few months but it's been problem free for at least 6 to 8 months.
I don't even think about it any more. I just pick up the phone and dial (or answer as the case may be). I have gotten comments from my family when I call about how clear the call is. Quote,"Sounds like you're right next door..." That's when I remember that I'm using MJ.

MJ Still going as only phone service
Hi all
Just checking in, have not been in the forum in a while.
MJ is still going as my only phone service.
Looking forward to the upcoming billing cycle ?
Current savings over standard phone service for me is now at about:
$400 + perhaps closer to $500
Current savings over Vonage is about $240
I've used the extra money to open a forex mini account and now making some light gains in my forex account.
Anyhow the MJ service is working well, NOT perfect as compared to any cell service, but good. I occasionally have dropped calls. And sometimes a little crackly calls. But I believe this is no MJ's fault because I"m using the MJ on an old,old P3 laptop with 128MB ram.
And it only seems to do this sort of over night, When I go to the laptop and sort of wake it up and move the mouse around a bit to wake up the computer, or even restart the computer then calls are very clear once again. So I can't confirm that the minor problems are related to MJ, it's more likely that it's my cheap laptop specs.
I really need to put some more ram in this old laptop to further test this but I've been lazy since it's working well.
Anyhow just wanted to report back to confirm that in another 4 months it will be one complete year of MJ service as my only phone service. And I've very happy with the savings.
Any minor call drops and some crackly calls on occasion I can deal with.
By the way I also use this as my only business line too, for my computer sales and service business. Considering adding another number for business calls or something.
Now if they can get the fax portion worked out I can add email to fax service on my server and I would be tickled.
Anyhow
Over and out for now

MagicJack has been working great for me since the first purchased. No real problem, I could also send and receive faxes using the 3 in 1 printer, or WinFax Pro. 10.
I've cancelled the Verizon home phone service, and when asked why, I told me, I switch over to MagicJack and they already knew what that was.
Anyway, love the product. Works great. Sent one to Colombia, registered it here in the States and now we call back and forth using MagicJack!
Awesome Awesome Awesome!

The savings continues
Hi
I've been enjoying my savings now for several years
Just checking back in to express it's still working perfect as my only phone service and also I have calls forward to my cell if I'm away from the house etc.
I would have to say I've saved at least $3000 thus far.
Doesn't sound like a lot of a few years, but consider this.
If you can save only $50 or so bucks and then take that and invest into a medium risk long term investment every month such as Apple or some Quaker Growth fund or something.
It can easily turn into 5k-10k over 10 years, thats not much for starters, but some people never invest in anything because they don't think they have the money.
But they do have it they just may have to work to find it like switching to MJ or some other creative trimming of the budget etc.
Anyhow, I'm investing in forex currency and turned my savings into a life long income now just FYI
Happy MJacking LOL

Anyhow FYI enjoying the savings for 3 years now
Looking forward to the MJ Plus NO computer version and ditching this old laptop
Thanks MJ

Well over a Year and fine, now using on Linux
I agree. I've had ZERO problems once I found you had to allow OUTGOING in the router I have for Yahoo Messenger. Before that all 0's showed and no contact list was filling in. But found this forum and MJ help. I've used it for well over a year now and love it. IN FACT, I did a blog about Damn Telephone charges and the increases, taxes and made UP line charges. I dared my contacts on my old Social site page to Compare stupid phone bills and their fictitious costs they add on. Thanks USA, you beat out Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Hastings UK for Ridiculous add on charges. We all had a nice laugh comparing our bills and extra costs. BUT I did something about it. I hardly ever used the land line. But when I did, the costs of the calls were almost as much as the 35$ a month it cost just to have the damn phone. I was paying close to 70.00$ a month just with a handful of calls. I said FU!! to AT&T's phone. I was able to have DSL and no phone. Jumped at the chance and bought Magic Jack. Works perfect. I changed over to Linux for now, and it brought a host of problems with things like Magic Jack and Slingbox viewing. BUT Virtual BOX fixed those. Linux support for MJ is in the works, *not holding my breath though. I'm very happy with Magic Jack, I plan on buying more time when the date arrives after next year. I don't even mind if it's unplugged overnight or if my computers off, I prefer it that way. No solicitors or unwanted blabbing while I'm watching Sports.
using MJ+ as primary number
Just a heads up...some hospitals cannot contact MJ numbers. I have a friend that works in a hospital and called my MJ # and got this message. "your call cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and dial again (313-90)." They tested and found YMAX Communication (Magic Jack CO) rejects calls from PRI circuits – something about the D-channel. So just wanted to post this as a heads up. I love my MJ BTW.
