Can't hear me at receiving end
Hi,
Weird problem. MJ has been working fine for months. Today, when I make calls, it dials okay and makes calls. I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. Just silence.
Maybe a co-incidence, but I had added PowerBoost, a service from my cable ISP (shaw.ca) to give a short boost to download speed for the first few seconds of a download. Thing is the MJ worked fine after PowerBoost was added to my account. But later, the problem with MJ popped up.
I've powered everything down starting with the cable modem and on up the line to the Hawking Booster, to the router to the PCs. I tried several phones (one cordess, one corded) in the MJ. I checked that mute wasn't on.
Any suggestions on what to try?
thanks

Re: Can't hear me at receiving end
Go into the softphone's menu and check the volume setting. See if the microphone setting is turned down. I don't know if this affects a handset. But, using my headset, this gets turned all the way down for inexplicable reasons. For a couple weeks it was happening so frequently that I began dialing the special echo number (909-390-0003) before calling anyone.tony wrote:Hi,

Update. 2 days later now after the day when no one could hear me. MJ working fine and the person at the other end says the volume of my voice is back to normal, like a land line (i.e., perfectly audible). I've made no change to my volume settings.tony wrote:Then as of this morning, the MJ is working but the other person reports the volume of my voice is quite low. I'll keep monitoring.

We have been experiencing the same problem with our MJ. It is totally random. We use a Panasonic phone (the type with a base and 4 handsets) plugged into the magicjack.
MMMM I just posted the same problem. I've never been able to use my MJ...9 months of on and off trying and the party I'm calling cannot hear me at all....ever !!!! Actually at one point I was told that I could be heard but it was totally not understandable.
I would love to hear from someone who can solve this problem.

That might be different than a volume problem. When they said you weren't understandable, did that mean it was "choppy"?bentley wrote:Actually at one point I was told that I could be heard but it was totally not understandable.
Are you using a handset plugged into the MJ device? Or, a headset plugged into your computer's mic/speaker jacks?

"Garbled?" Would you call that choppy? You've replied to a thread about "silence" on the other end. If your problem is "choppy" audio, then you should look at this thread:bentley wrote:G'day. It seems that my voice was very "garbled" and not understandable. I have tried a couple of different phones plugged into the MJ.
Didn't sound like a volume problem to me.
The party I call comes in loud and clear... just like my land line.
Thanks for any help you can supply.

You can listen to yourself by calling 909-390-0003. It should echo everything you say back to you. If you don't get the echo, it's the "silence" problem described in this thread. If it echos, but it's choppy, broken audio, the other thread is what you want to get some ideas from.

Hi again Mark. I tried the VOIP speed test and here are my results:
Download speed 797 Kbps (socket test)
Upload speed 25 Kbps (socket test)
Quality of service 97 %
Maximum delay 125 ms
Round trip time 2447 ms
Upstream jitter 167.5 ms
Upstream packet loss 0 %
Upstream packet order 100 %
Upstream discards 0 %
Downstream jitter 7.7 ms
Downstream packet loss 0 %
Downstream packet order 100 %
Downstream discards 0 %
I also dialed the # you sent to see if I got an echo of my voice but there was no echo.
Some of the stuff recommended in the link you sent could be beyond what I am capable of, but may attempt them if I get the nerve.
Thanks again.

You have a lot of jitter and a lot of delay. And, if I'm reading "25 Kbps" correctly, you don't have enough upload speed for MJ. It needs around 100 Kbps.bentley wrote:Hi again Mark. I tried the VOIP speed test and here are my results:
The link to the "detailed analysis" would have been better (as mentioned in that other thread.). But, I think you said you use satellite. So, based on what others have said about MJ not working with satellite, and the numbers you posted, I don't think you have any chance.
