MJ requires about 100kbs. Go to www.speedtest.net and see what speed you have with dial up.emiliomcol wrote:im trying to use MJ on a dial Up Internet service

I dont currently use a pc and MJ togather but pretty sure about a year ago you were able to go into your Registry and find MJ USb device and changed the codec for g711 to g729 by simply changing a 0 with a 1
can someone who has their MJ hooked up to their PC confirm this? Now the call quality may still be poor even with g729 but may be bettern then using g711

I just checked. There is NO mention of g729 in my registry.dan wrote:I dont currently use a pc and MJ togather but pretty sure about a year ago you were able to go into your Registry and find MJ USb device and changed the codec for g711 to g729 by simply changing a 0 with a 1

These opinions are strictly my own. However, if you really want them, we can negotiate.

I saw something about g711 in the talk4free application branch. It wasn't clear if that's what you referred to.dan wrote:can someone who has their MJ hooked up to their PC confirm this? Now the call quality may still be poor even with g729 but may be bettern then using g711
I wish you (or someone else) could provide more details. It would be nice to have an option to reduce bandwidth usage. (I suppose this would require more CPU cycles, perhaps alleviated by setting magicjack.exe task manager priority to "high"?).
Thanks. I saw both of those in the talk4free application branch of the registry.dan wrote:there is options for g711A and G711U.. I know you can switch between the two.
I was going to ask if there would be any benefit to use one instead of the other. But, a quick google turned up information that there's no speed difference. For those who are curious what the difference is:

So I was playing around and although G729 is not an option with the current USB device it is an option that MJ allows see below this was a successful call.

How did you get MJ to use G729?
Could u please give us more details on how u were able to get MJ to use G729?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: How did you get MJ to use G729?
I think it involves buying an ATA device, dumping information from the softphone (from memory), locating your credentials, and configuring the ATA device to use those credentials (you stop using the MJ device).kamols wrote:Could u please give us more details on how u were able to get MJ to use G729?
There are topics discussing this in the hacks forum. You should be aware that you would violate the Terms of Service for using MJ, and that MJ can terminate your service (with no refund) if they discover such use. I believe I remember seeing a couple people say they their service had been terminated.
There have been rumors MJ will sell an ATA device, probably at a higher per-year price (to accommodate the loss of ad-revenue). The ads haven't panned out yet (except MJ's own ads for Black Friday sales). If they never do, I'd expect to see the price rise anyway.

I've been using Eyebeam with my MJ credentials for a while. Forcing Eyebeam to use G729 is easy and the call quality is really amazing considering my very jittery not so great internet connection. Not having any luck getting Eyebeam to "interact" properly with the usb dongle and the phone attached to it though. It would be great if anyone could figure out a way to get MJ softphone to use G729!

I give my MJ for My Ma to try on her laptop with dialup, And she called me with it, She had to talk real slow for me to under stand what she was saying but it did work.
her speed test is down 43 kb/s up 445 kb/s and 265 Ping
i could see where MJ to MJ might work on dialup,,maby ( VERY crummy cell phone call quality)
