does not work with wirless router

i have a netgear wirless G router and have had problems receiving calls and also having calls just drop off or hang up after 5-10 minutes on the phone. Tech support told me it was my wirless router causing all my problems even though the desktop with the MJ on it is wired to the wirless router. Anyway i tried a wired phone instead of my 2.5ghz. wirless phone and still had problems only after unplugging wirless router and connecting my computer directly to my cable modem did the problem stop and has been working great for a day now. So what can i do to get my wirless back or cant i, also can i use a broadband router (not wireless) and just hardwire in my laptop when i need it?

That should work. A lot of people (including myself) noticed a degradation of MJ voice quality (or reliability of a call) when connecting to a router wirelessly.

You should connect to your router using a wire for awhile to get used to what to expect. Then try wireless, choosing different channels (some are more susceptible to interference from microwaves and cordless phones). If you really want wireless, I'd invest in a high-gain external antenna to boost the signal strength. If the router is located where it allows it, maybe an external directional antenna to focus more of the signal in the direction of the house that can use it.

I agree ^ with wired you dont have any distortion because of internet issues... so then if you had a problem it would be with something else (for the most part)

sounds like BS to me, I'm running a Netgear Wireless Router WGR614.

magicjack connected to amd x2 5200 (xp pro and vista ultimate) , directly hard wired, works fine.

magicjack connected to amd x4 9750 (vista ultimate) hardwired works fine.

Magicjack connected to amd 2000+ (xp pro) via microsoft wireless USB talking to the netgear wireless router, works fine.

magicjack connected to amd TL-60 x2 toshiba laptop via built in wireless to netgear wirelss router, works fine.



The only problem I had with wireless was that the magicjack had to be connected to a different USB hub than the microsoft wireless USB device. i.e. plug in magicjack into the front usb ports and the microsoft wireless USB device in the back usb ports.

Oh yeah, doesn't matter if I'm using a hardwired phone or a wireless 2.4 Ghz GE phone in any of the machines, plugged into the magicjack. still works fine..

It probably depends on how many other access points are within range, on the same channel. Interference from someone's microwave or cordless phone.

There are too many people who have experienced degraded quality or instability using wireless to just dismiss it as BS.

I had the same problem using a wireless modem that my calls were very choppy and not clear. So now I am not using a wireless modem, but just plugging directly from my router to my laptop and my phone calls are an improvement. Also recently I have read a post here on magicJack forums on the Hawking Broadband Booster improving the voice clarity. Before buying I checked many of the reviews and have seen many users having great success with their VOIP with the Hawking Broadband Booster. Here is my experience. It is very easy to setup and install - great! It takes a few extra minutes for the Booster to configure magicJack after booting to windows. Once the blue light is gone on the booster and it is flickering the green light my magicJack almost works as great as a landline or just as good. It was worth the 34 bucks. I like using magicJack and now with the Hawking Broadband Booster it is an overall improvement.

I've heard good things about Hawking BB. I want to buy one just to compare it against my Tomato-flashed router, then return it. I'd like to see if there's any advantage to using Tomato.

Hawking BB is just QoS "in a box." Easier to use for many people than flashing a router with Tomato and configuring QoS. But, that's not always clear because they don't get into the details of what the BB is doing.

Either way, I'd just like to see if there's a performance difference that might take away from the benefit of its ease. (Something tells me that it can't be as efficient as a specific, targeted QoS setup. But, maybe the difference isn't significant.).

I have now used the Hawking Broadband Booster for 5 days right now and my overall experience is good enough to keep it and satisfied with the voice clarity. As far as all the technical details of how it works and exactly what it does, I cannot really say, but only know what i have read and what other people have posted by their experience and usage with the HBB1. One thing I have noticed is that every time I boot my computer or turn my computer on, I have timed to see how long the HBB1 recognizes my magicJack. It has taken 5 minutes for HBB1 to recognize magicJack. My magicJack is setup so when I do turn on my computer on or boot my computer to windows it has the USB icon next to my clock in the right bottom taskbar, but my magicJack softphone does not come on automatically. I have put the magicJack icon on the bottom left taskbar, so I must click on this icon to have my softphone to turn on. With all of this said, I must first wait while HBB1 is flashing the blue light configuring the magicJack USB for 5 minutes and when HBB1 flashes a continuous green light I can open my softphone and then I can make and receive phone calls. Is this 5 minute wait time worth the purchase of the HBB1 with magicJack? YES! When I come home from work and turn my laptop computer on, I have other things to do around the house then wait at my computer desk for 5 minutes. Overall I hear everyone I make phone calls to much better, they hear me much better, my mother in Hawaii hears me better, my fiance in China hears me better. It is worth the investment with HBB1.

but my magicJack softphone does not come on automatically. I have put the magicJack icon on the bottom left taskbar, so I must click on this icon to have my softphone start.

Mine is the same. I think it's because I disabled Windows "autorun" feature a long time ago. I read it's a security risk to automatically run programs.

It sounds like they mean they have a hardwired connection already.

I forgot to mention im in a ~4k squarefoot + house exluding the finished attic and basement so its a pain to get wireless everywhere.... I wasn't saying that you HAVE to have a problem when its wireless... i meant that it could just be a cause....

I bought a Hawking BB several months ago due to the number of positive references to it here on this forum - plugged it in and the MajicJack calls got better. Made me a believer in the Hawking. I just love my little bundle of Joy" - Magic Jack.
