Webinars using phone & MJ, instead of buying a headset?

Post by dz20854 »

My regular telephone is already plugged into my MJ, which is plugged into my computer USB. If I go to a webinar on the internet, can I use my regular telephone to listen and talk during the webinar? Can this be done instead of buying a headset?

If not through the MJ, is their another adapter, using USB (preferably) or mini-plugs, to adapt a regular telephone to become a computer's microphone and speaker?

The telephone attached to the MJ device doesn't replace your computer mic and speakers. If the webinar communicates using a conference-call telephone number, then you'd use the telephone. If it communicates using a computer's mic and speakers, you'd need a headphone.

Kids can be rough on the headsets. I've gone through two already. I bet there would be demand for a simple adapter to let any ordinary telephone be a computer's microphone and speaker.

A $2 plank of wood, with holes drilled in it, was a better solution back when I was a kid. :)

This was the original reason I bought my MJ and it works great! I use a Plantronics headset that plugs into a Uniden DECT 6.0 with great results. The headset was cannibalized from a Plantronics 2.4 but I don't think the headset is much more than $19.95 at Office Depot.

depending on the length of the webinar you could be disconnected for hitting the limit on per call length which would really screw everything up for you. I hit the limit last week at an hour and a half. A day later it was 2 hours so just to be safe make sure the call will not be over 1 1/2 hours in length.

I haven't heard of MJ havng a per-call limit. If they did, I don't think it would vary from 1.5 to 2 hours. Maybe it was just random instability? I've had dropped calls at 15-30 minutes.

I just filedumped this from magicjack.exe

Code: Select all

[MagicJackOptions.CallDurationControl]
MaxOutboundCallDuration=3600
so I guess they have a limit set on 3600 periods (whatever that is)
