Dec. 21 upgrade? (Lucky you?)

Post by az2008 »

Anyone else getting an upgrade?

I was running dongleless (without the USB device, as described in the "hacks" section of this site) without problem. Something forced MJ off line, or into an upgrade. It got an error=9, and then went to the MJ web page (a video began playing).

I plugged in the MJ device, and started it the normal way (not the "dongeless" way). It got to the softphone, then error=9, then "Lucky you" upgrade message. It took only a few seconds, and returned to the softphone with an error=9, and then "ready to call."

The softphone skin looks different. My phone number displays in the title bar. The buttons are a little different (my magicjack account portal, weather, and magicFix.).

I thought the "dongleless" thing was supposed to prevent MJ from upgrading. But, in this case, my "dongleless" setup was unuseable. It just kept doing the upgrade, and then causing my browser to go to the MJ web page.

Just got it myself, although I can't tell what is different other than some minor cosmetic softphone changes. It did seem to load a little faster, but the functionality & options are the same. It would be nice if they would provide some sort of changelog, like software companies do. Anyone out there know what is upgraded?

The computer I'm on right now auto upgraded the magicJack around 6 PM EST. The upgrade is looking like just cosmetic softphone changes. However, I'm not sure what other changes there are yet. I just checked another computer and it has not upgraded yet.

Ugh. I just did the upgrade, and suddenly I can't call out. I get no error message. I pick up the phone, get dial tone, dial the number, and there will be a bare pause and then I'm right back to dial tone.

I suppose I'll restart my entire computer, and see if that helps.

12/21 Upgrade. Lucky us!?

Post by DrStrange »

My MJ has been a bit squirrelly for the past couple of days. This is the second day in a row I've had the MJ application quit unexpectedly and had to reboot the [dedicated] computer to get it running again [to fix 'Connect MagicJack to USB port']. This time I got the 'major upgrade' notice. I ran it, noticed the firmware upgrade, and got Error 3. I ran MagicFix [there's a direct link from the menu in the upgraded firmware] and was back in business except for choppy audio [I have Prio installed and priority set to 'high']. I restarted the MJ application again and everything seems OK now [checked incoming and outgoing calls, both OK].

Ymax must be doing a major network upgrade, or at least a major change. I think the audio quality is a bit better now. Of course, it could just be that so many people are unable to use their MJs because of the upgrade there's less traffic. Only time will tell.

I was on a call where it sounded like the "squelch" is more aggressive, less twitchy, more definite. In the past I would hear the audio blank out, and resume with the slightest sound, and blank out. Tonight it sounded like the triggers to blank (and resume) were different.

Crud. A complete restart, a reinstall, unplugging and plugging back in, and a soft restart all result in the same behavior.

I dial, there is a bare pause, and I'm right back to dial tone again.

Mean while, on the other side, the phone rings and they pick up, only to hear nothing.

Time to search the forums again. -_-

lasserjobs,

Did you ever find a way to get this new update. If you down load from their site it is the same version we have been funning for a couple of months now.

I did a restart on my MJ but that didn't initiate any updates?

I received a notice that the update would start in 30 seconds or so after restarting MJ by way of the softphone restart. I now also have the new update running on my Thin Client.

Pagemen,

Thanks for hosting the file. I have it now but because they have apparently pulled it I don't know if I should install it. It is not like I can test it with anyone at 3:15 AM. I mean what other nut would be up at this time of day except for us "bleeding gotta have the latest whatever it is Geek types".

Hey pagemen, what is this URL upgrade.magicjack.com never heard of that one before, at least it doesn't ring a bell? Never mind I figured it out, The Vista update link. DUH!

The dedicated computer is a Dell Dimension 8100 running Windows XP SP3.

After a bit of research, I also got the version number from the registry. That version number is 20081217000002.

Did anyone else notice that the December 21st upgrade renamed the C: drive to "magicJack (C:)." And I can't change it back.

Any ideas? Any help??

My idea is that I am not installing this update unless my Magicjack updates automatically by itself. I had read where this update was pulled ? At any rate, once MJ determines that they want to send me a firmware update, I shall accept it. But until then, I am very happy with my Magicjack phone. It is working perfectly and seven digit local dialing is working now also.

pagemen commented that he is now unable to get his SIP info after this update. Has anyone else tried to confirm this statement yet? Was the update just a security patch they put out before the holiday season when many people will be getting their new jack?

I think a server went down early this morning. I couldn't access voice mail or call myself from a different phone(fast busy). I had been doing the Run as a Service thing and thought I broke something, but when I tried my.magicjack.com and it didn't even connect I decided to just leave it alone and see if it fixed itself, which it did.

That is an incredible display of self control, I have never been able to do that. I would have had to dink with it until there was no hope of recovery.

Can someone upload a screenshot of the updated MJ application? I would like a better explanation for some of the less technical people I know. All they know is that you plug it in and it works!

I just used my phone and noticed there was a softphone ad about allowing a new upgrade, with some text about it being 6 months in development and "the best service ever". If truncated calls are considered "the best service", this is definitely a lump of coal for Xmas in our collective stocking. I'm assuming this must mean 12/17 version, but I never saw anything about allowing it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

there might be better way around...but here is an easy way: just copy the mjusbsp folder to a new location and run magicJack.exe from there, as the upgrade always applies to old location.

new software update limits calls to 30 minutes then cuts you

Post by captfbgnet »

Version update 180.4663.3272 (loader) 180.466.3 (MJ) limits calls to 30 minutes then cuts you off. It happened to me and this site says others are having the same problem. With new upgrade, all MJ folders have 12/17/08 date with company:MagicJack, LP All of you probably know this by now. Tech support did one thing right. A MJ tech called me (surprise!) and I told him about this version of their software and the 30 minute cutoff limit. He seemed surprised like I was the only person to call about this issue. I assume (?) you guys are too? He did not give me any time limit on a fix, other than saying something like, "we'll look into it." If you can, try to stay away from this upgrade until this issue is fix. Call MJ about this issue if you haven't already.

Just adding my 2 cents worth of my info....

captfbgnet,

You must be some privileged character. I have never heard of them calling anyone back. They always say they will but never do.

To the posters in between you and this post of mine. It just amazes me how so many people can install the same patch and have so many different results.

If you tried to design software to do that you would be at it for a long time.. :x

I am repeating myself but when I updated everything worked the same as before with the exception of the 30 minute timeout.

My upgrade worked just fine although I have NEVER had occasion to talk for 30 minutes so don't know if calls time-out after 30 minutes.
