**help** best voip out there
I have a magicjack In fact I own quite a few. I have been using those for about a year. Regardless of the hurdles and bumps in the road. In my opinion this is a great deal. I still remember the times when (not so long ago) when you would receive a bill from the phone company of 100's or 1000's and if you did not pay you would be shut off. Or you would spend hours with MCI ATT and others trying to convince them that those are not your calls (and when they were you were doomed) while for all the time they would call you a liar. I am not one who wants to deal with it again. I still think that paying a fair price for what you get is well "fair". New restrictions and unknown criteria come with using or over using the Magicjack. After researching few other VOIP I found out that there is no "unlimited" usage out there. Though they advertise. Not vonage not time warner not comcast not anyone of them. It seems that at this time to get a reliable VOIP when making a decent amount of calls is to go by the minutes. it varies from 1 to 3 cent/minute with each company having different loopholes. I do make a lot of calls about 200/day for business.
And I don t mind paying for it.
My question.
What VOIP would you recommend ? and why ? is it reliable ?
Can you please share your experience and recommend a service.(I am probably not the only one looking for a affordable and reliable service)
Thanks for the future input.
Have a merry Christmas.

If you're happy with MJ, just get 10 units and spread the usage across them. I'm not sure why you're asking for other services when you're praising MJ.magicjack6666 wrote:I do make a lot of calls about 200/day for business.

BTW: Regarding limits. I agree that nothing is truly "unlimited." But, the difference with MJ is that other services do publish their limits. For example, Skype has a footnote next to their "unlimited" which defines their "fair usage policy" as 10,000 minutes per month.
That's a little different than leaving it undefined, and then terminating people the way MagicJack did, without any warning, referring them to a phone number nobody answered, and without the helpdesk even knowing the terminations were occurring.
That (and the recent 30- to 60-minute limit which occured with similar callousness) is just bad business practices. It's laziness. Not conducting business in an ethical manner.

My wife and I are testing the excessive use limit now, this month were are at almost 4500 min used and our goal is 5000 and it looks like we are going to make it, we are trying to get cut for excessive use to see what the actual number is, we have a spare MJ that was given to us by a friend who was hoping it would work with Sat Broadband and didnt. I'll post the outcome when we hit 5000 min, WOW it's been a chore trying to hit that number lol.

I'm not sure what the value of that test will be. People exceeded 5000 minutes for months prior to the end of Oct. when MJ abruptly began enforcing the "excessive use" policy.ret27m wrote: I'll post the outcome when we hit 5000 min,
It seems like the fallout (to how clumsily it was handled) caused its enforcement to be stopped just as abruptly.
So, even if you reach 8000 minutes, I think that's only good as a month-to-month indicator. I suspect MJ will eventually enforce it again.
Personally I don't have a problem with monthly limits. Even relatively low limits. But, the process of applying them should be more constructive than a couple months ago.

ar2008 I'm really sorry, before I test anything in the future I'll check with you first I just wanted to test it for my own piece of mind.

I'm just saying that we already know the "excessive use" terminations have ended. Just because we stopped seeing reports of terminations.ret27m wrote:ar2008 I'm really sorry, before I test anything in the future I'll check with you first. I just wanted to test it for my own piece of mind.
So, your usage report is interesting. But, it's what we can already imply.
The real problem is the ambiguity and abitrary nature of the limit. It's not defined. Not enforced consistently. When it is enforced, it's ham-handed.
I think most people would be happier with a consistently defined and enforced limit. Not "Hey, I got 8000 minutes this month. Ouch, I got terminated at 2000 minutes this month."

It's ok with me. It's just that it's a backward-looking measurement. It shouldn't be construed that anyone will achieve that usage going forward.ret27m wrote:Well ar2008 if its OK with you I'd like to continue my test, iI'll not post my findings tho as to not anoy you.
MJ's application of the limit is arbitrary (in definition and application).

Yes I'd say it is time you grew up and not treated people the way you do, if they dont agree with you you get childish. And try to badger them into submission, I'll not allow that to happen to me.

Dude, grow up. I just wanted to make sure it was clear that whatever maximum use you achieve shouldn't be construed as indicative that MJ has no limits. That's how it sounded you were presenting it.ret27m wrote:Yes I'd say it is time you grew up and not treated people the way you do, if they dont agree with you you get childish.
(I.e., "I heard of people who were terminated, but didn't meet any personally. I'm testing it now.").
