calls fading
Is anyone having trouble with calls fading away for a few seconds and then coming back?

Do they come back? If so, I've not personally seen any reports of that.Garrison wrote:No, whoever you are talking to just disappear
If not, do you notice that it occurs at a specific point in the call (15 minutes?). There seems to be a limit on the length of calls for the past few days. Different people experiencing different limits.

The only thing I can think of: Do you use a handset connected to the MJ device, or a headset connected to your computer's speaker/mic outlets?Garrison wrote:Yes they do come back
If it's a handset, it could have something to do with USB power. MJ (and handsets) seem to use almost the maximum power prescribed by the USB standard. (It's been reported that the new upgrade makes it worse for some reason.). People have reported various symptoms. Unable to dial. Other person can't hear anything. One person said he only experienced it when calling overseas (like distance played a factor). It seems very variable, not just a "it works, or it doesn't."
To eliminate this as a possibility, try using the softphone with a headset connected to the computer. If you don't have the problem, it's something about the handset and/or USB power. You could try a different handset. And/or use a powered USB hub. But, it should have a beefy power supply. (Some USB hubs have the same skimpy power as computer USB ports). This one has been recommended by MJ users. (Seller appears to be an MJ user.):

If it just stated the past couple days, I would suspect it's due to the upgrade which began between 12/17 and 12/21, with people being upgraded as late as a couple days ago.Garrison wrote:Thanks for the comeback AZ 2008, I am a winter visitor in Casa Grande(your neighbor) I have been using this MJ since July and this just started happening the last couple of days.
It could be my ISP.
As I said in a previous reply, there have been reports that handsets that used to work stopped working. And, as said before, the USB power problem was never a binary "it works, it doesn't." (One person reported people couldn't hear him only when he called internationally.).
So, I'd try another handset. And/or a powered USB hub. Considering what others have reported the past few days, your ISP wouldn't be my first suspect.

Ok. I'm not familiar with the Mac client. You might ask about it in the Mac forum. But, I'd still recommend that you try the softphone with a headset. That would isolate whether it's the USB/handset or your ISP.Garrison wrote:I am using a intel Mac and the only upgrade I was informed about was about a month ago maybe more, nothing since.

Re: calls fading
That happen to me twice since having the MagicJack for 2 month now. You're talking then the person voice fades aways, and return after about 5 sec.Garrison wrote:Is anyone having trouble with calls fading away for a few seconds and then coming back?

I think its because MagicJack uses some kind of Wireless network, because I tried to call my voicemail last week, and it said that the "Wireless Number you're trying to reach is unavaible at this time". Sounds like a Cell Phone number to me.

calls fading
I have this same problem, off & on for awhile now...along with several others, too numerous to mention, but most all of them have already been posted here..
Heres something that seems to solve most of the problems:
1. I hardly ever shut down my computer completly,I usually put it in a sleep mode overnight...however I have found that if I am experiencing a lot of problems they seem to go away if I completly reboot my system..I have to believe that rebooting gets rid of a lot of temp space being used on the system and frees up a lot of space for MJ to use once my system starts up again.
I'd be interested if this solves anybodys probelms..

Trying to make it thru the upstate NY winters!
Re: calls fading
Fading, yes, just observed it on the last call. The other person's voice volume went down and the clarity got a bit choppy, like on a marginal cell call. But there are too many variables to say what is the cause. I'm visiting and on a wireless connection currently, I got the Dec 27 update, and I'm using a different wired phone. The other person was on a land line.Garrison wrote:Is anyone having trouble with calls fading away for a few seconds and then coming back?

Still getting the periodic screech or tone dialing sound too. That's discussed elsewhere in these forums.
I've had this problem. In my case it seemed like I was on a cell call that was dropped - but really wasn't. The call would go silent and I would end up repeatedly saying "can you hear me" and then about 20 seconds later the conversation resumed. My sister on the other end said the same thing happened to her - silence and then it came back. It happened a couple of times *before* the recent upgrade and always to the same person. At first I thought it was my sister's crappy cordless phone running out of power. But the 2nd time it happened was when she was on a corded phone. Since the upgrade I have not experienced this.

Happened to me a few times, I started playing with my wireless and then wired, and notice, ifs the system is wireless, then I get the fading while the other person is talking. If I put it wired, then it doesn't happen.JohnnyFreightTRAIN wrote:This just happened to me.
Was quite surprising.
Call went choppy, too. Sounded like a helecopter.
The other person could hardly hear me.
It mostly happens withing 15 min of a conversation on Wireless Network.
