Re: BIG trouble
Under device manager, click the Disk Drive section, and you should see, YMAX MagicJack USB Device.valentinaajdini wrote:hi,

Right click on the device and uninstall it. Then unplug the device, wait a minutes or two and plug it back it. It should install and restart the device.
Keep us inform...
Re: BIG trouble
There is a "restart" function in the Softphone's "menu" under "advanced users."valentinaajdini wrote:whenever i try to make a call it says RESTART MAGIC JACK and i have no idea how to restart it,
I don't know if that's what you're supposed to do. I don't recall receiving this message.

well, i m tryin to help my bro, he is oversees and he is trying all those things that you guys are tellin me to do in here, so i dont have it in front of me to be exact, i m tryin to help them, and he says he installed the softphone even though they have another regular phone connected to the comp. It always says: restart magic jack error 401???
I am not sure what the prob is since i dont see it and they dont speak much english. Maybe you have any other suggestions or maybe we are not doing all this right, i really dont know what else to try, they say well, maybe its time to add money to it but it says that its active until nov 28, 09 and they only had it for a month, i doubt it the trial deal, it was a gift and they said its paid for a year.
thank you.

I don't know what all the error codes mean, but often it has to do with being unable to connect to the MagicjJck servers. I got an error for awhile because the MagicJack servers weren't in the DNS. If I tried to ping upgrade.talk4free.com (or prov1.talk4free.com) it couldn't find the host. I had to get the IP address[1] and create an entry in my host file (do a "dir host /s" from the c: drive). I also had to add an entry for the proxy server it tried to connect to. But, that was before MJ began connecting to proxy servers using an IP address instead of a hostname.valentinaajdini wrote:It always says: restart magic jack error 401???
You said they used it for 30 days. I know when I registered my MJ it said it would send an email for me to confirm my registration, and if I didn't respond within 30 days a few things would stop functioning. Maybe they didn't respond to that email?

I didn't look at the link that AZ put up but 401 is a Browser error. The MagicJack left pain is an IE window (actually an OCX module that uses the IE whatever version you have engine.valentinaajdini wrote:it was a gift so i am assuming that they didnt even get an email??
i ll try tthis site you gave me above and lets see what they get, it s hard to figure it out because i dont have it here to see what i get
So that could be as simple as a setting in IE being too tight (secure) or some firewall setting too tight.
I feel for you having to trouble shoot something you can't see.
Rather than buy a new one or fight with MJ Tech support why don't you have them send the unit to you so you can play with it up close and personal.
[EDIT] HTTP Error 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
