Need the settings change for windows to optimize windows

Back several months ago there was a posting of a setting change in vista that you could do to set the priority to external devices.I now have a new laptop and also want to set it to the changes but i can' seem to find the instructions anywhere.I have did several search's on here but no luck.Does anyone have this or know where it was posted.

Right click on My Computer, then Properties, Advance Tab, Performance settings , Advance tab and check on Background Services

I know the setting background priority method is a quick fix and is recommended by MJ I believe on occasion; however that gives priority to all background tasks equally.

A better method is to give magicJack.exe process it self priority. I do not use Vista but in XP you can use task manager to do this by right clicking on the magicJack.exe in the running processes list and setting it's priority to above normal or higher. Since most processes run at priority level "Normal" just setting magicJack.exe to above normal gives it priority over almost all other running processes but not over the ones which the operating system itself normally has set to use above normal.

I think the task manager priority can be set in Vista the same way; but again I do not run it so I can say so for certain.

I am sure some Vista user will pop in and give you more on how to do that in Vista.

The only problem is every time you close the program and run it again you have to set your priority again. Please advise.

Thank You davrow, I try this program and it will save your priorities like it says, it will replace your windows task manager with a lot of more options.
The name of the program is Prio and it is free for private use.
