It would help if you could provide more details. Incoming? Outgoing? Does it consistently happen with all calls? At a certain time within the call? With a cordless phone, wired phone, softphone? (any, or all?). Connecting wirelessly to your router, or with a wire? (any, or all?).

We're good, but we're not mind readers.

Since the NEW UPGRADE, my calls are CONSTANTLY disconnecting

All of the calls are getting disconnected. And no time limit either. I have a vista. Both touch pad and wireless phones do the same thing. A wired router. I have also tried it on both comps. No difference.

Have you tried bypassing the router, connecting directly to the modem? That sounds like the only thing you haven't tried yet. (Be aware that you may get hacked if you bypass your router for too long, without a software firewall.).

Did you try the softphone instead of a phone connected to the USB device? I don't think that would make a difference. But, it would be useful to do it just to eliminate any possible problem with the USB port, device or hard phone.

You mean unplug the phone from mj and make a call using just the touch pad?

Unplug the phone. Maybe "safely remove" MJ, and start it again. Check the "menu" item to be sure the headset is active. And, make a call using the softphone (with a headset connected to your speaker/mic ports).

And, bypass your router by connecting directly to your modem. There have been more than a few reports of routers causing problems. (I'd do this before I tried eliminating the handset/USB device).

I just tried unplugging the phone line and restarted mj and went in a call using the touch pad that did NOT disconnect for over 17mins. We shall see. I did NOT do anything with the router yet.

Good. At least you may have isolated the problem. I wouldn't have suspected that. I was leaning more toward the router.

However, there have been reports that the pig-tail USB extension cable is poor quality. People have reported disconnects due to moving the USB device around. (I've experienced that too.). It's a bad fit between the connectors.

You could test if that's the problem by connecting the USB device directly to the USB port. Or, use a different USB extension cable.

I have an ac powered usb port too. Gee, I have tried 3 different ports by using only the mj and no ac powered connection too. All kinds of ways. To NO avail.

Was just in a call and after 45mins it disconnected. I immediately tried to call back and it disconnected after 10 secs. So I guess that didn't work.

Are you a heavy caller? I wonder if you're getting special treatment due to uncommon usage patterns?

No, I wouldn't say I am a heavy caller.

Ok. I asked for that answer. I should have thought about how, back when people were terminated for "excessive use" they didn't think they were heavy callers either. :) (One dingaling was using MJ for telemarketing, making 200 calls a day, and thought it wasn't heavy.).

Can you estimate your monthly minutes of usage? Is it above 2000 minutes per month? That's not much more than an hour a day, every day.

That seems to be what MJ considers "excessive." Something between 2000 and 3000. (66 minutes per day to 100 minutes per day).

I have had this MJ for a yr. And I have not had ANY time constraint problem until I upgraded to this NEW upgrade. I am not on the phone constantly either. Gee, sometimes I can get on this MJ and call 10 times in a row before I get into any type of a conversation. Yeah, it is that bad sometimes just to get a call in any length of time before it gets disconnected.

Well, it's probably nothing. But, last October there were a lot of people saying the same thing. And, 60 to 100 minutes per day isn't "on the phone constantly" either.

I'm not saying MJ is enforcing different call caps depending on usage habits. But, just looking for some data to help identify what might make you different. I think we've explored every other possibility.

You could follow the instructions in the hacks section about finding and changing your proxy. Do the pmdump to find the proxy address you use (as I described). Then block it as described by pagemen. Verify that you're using a new proxy by finding your proxy address again (after restarting MJ).

Another possibility would be to do a line quality test at http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/index.html. Do a few of those to see if you have some quality issues that would cause MJ to drop the connection.

Problems also

Post by Norrie »

I too have problems with MJ since the new upgrade.
It cuts us off at EXACTLY one hour.
We are both on magicJack, the person that makes the call gets a busy signal and we are cut off and must make the call again. This is only since the last update, in December, the phone shuts down after 1 hour.
I have used your technical help online 3 times and the problem is not resolve.
Some of the things they have had me do are:
1. Go to My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Performance, Settings, Advanced, Change Processor Scheduling from Program to Background.
2. Restart magicJack
3. Reinstall the update, reboot magicJack. And reboot the computer.
4. Unplug magicJack. Go to "Start" in Windows and click on "run" and regedit and press.
click on + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE
Click on + sign next to SYSTEM
Click on + sign next to CurrentControlSet
Click on + sign next to Enum
find the folder called USB right click on that and click on "Permissions"
click on the check mark called "Allow" to the right of "Full Control". Click Ok
click on + sign next to USB and then find the two folders called "Vid1307", right click on one at a time and select delete.
I didn't have them
click on - Sign next to USB right click on Folder called USBSTOR and allow permissions
click on + sign next to USBSTOR
delete the folders called "CdRom&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"and "Disk&Ven_YMAX&Prod_MagicJack&Rev"
Exit RegEdit and plug in magicJack.
Reboot my machine
5. UnPlug magicJack, go to Start, Run, application data, delete folder MJUSBSP
Plug in magicJack and it reinstalled.

This has NOT helped... I still have the problem

That's a "feature." There's nothing you can do to fix it. See the wiki: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... ps_dec2008
