MAGICJACK ON WINDOWS 7 ?

I have recently installed windows 7 on my pc. I pluged the mj into the usb port it says it 's not plugged in. I get a dial tone but cannot make calls
anyone have any suggestions on how to use mj on windows 7

OK, I had to test this for myself and I got it to work. It requires two things.

1. Copy the mjusbsp folder from a working install on XP or Vista to the C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming folder in Windows 7.

2. You have to start it the no splash way to get it to load. Otherwise, you will get an error that it's not plugged in.

"C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack

Just substitute your username and your drive letter for X.

Keep in mind I installed Windows 7 on a vmware image as there is no way I am putting this beta on my real machine. I made a test call from the MJ to my cell phone. I also made a call from my cell phone to the magicjack. Both worked fine. The call was a little choppy at first, but was fine after that.

Thanks so much for the instructions. After using http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MagicJack/ ... ash_Screen and using the proper setting for my computer (took a few times to get it to keep the quotation marks.) it started up perfectlly.

I called my voicemail and was blown away. The call was crystal clear and it has never been on XP or Vista.

This works great and I managed to get MagicJack to work on Windows 7 as well. I have also set the priority to 'high'. What gives me the best formance though? It is setting the application to 'high' or making magicjack a service?

pretty much the same experience as this guy....but i am up and running in windows 7 and it is indeed much clearer than it usually is in vista.

I also followed the instructions under Windows 7 and magicjack starts up but never connects, failing with an error 9. Uninstalled antivirus to test (no change though it worked fine with Norton internet security 2009 under Vista 64-bit) and made sure any security was disabled.

Did all the standard - upgraded, unplugged, replugged, re-registered, etc.

Any thoughts???

When I try the above strategy I get this message:

Address"\foreground" supplied in the command line is invalid.
Do you want to open SJphone address string syntax reference?

If I answer yes, I get this message:
Cannot open file:
C:\User\username\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\SJphone.chm::/sjphonecommandlineswitches.htm.

Any guess where my error is?

How to use the Windows 7 "Task Scheduler" to automatically start MagicJack after booting up or a Restart. The "Task Scheduler" is found in the "Administrative Tools" Folder.

Notes:

Just browse to the location of your magicjack.exe that you stored in the process above, and CREATE a shortcut (that shortcut will have most of the information you need)! CUT that shortcut and paste it wherever you want it (on your desktop?)

Just substitute your username and your drive letter (the one that is NOT the CD) for X.
When you want to activate the magicjack (when plugged-in) just click the shortcut!

I got the magic jack to work but if i make a call using a cordless phone it disconnects me from the internet and i cannot make a call. But if i make a call from the computer screen without using a cordless phone then it works fine.

Is there a solution for this can someone please let me know

It sounds like you're starting a new topic (unrelated to Windows 7). I.e., the problem didn't begin after following the instructions in the topic you're replying to?

Are you using wireless to connect to your router or dsl/cable modem? If so, the cordless phone may be interfering with that wireless internet signal. There's some info about this on the wiki FAQ.

This workaround does work for me also, but as in Vista before, and now Windows 7, there is no way to have it start automatically as it did in XP???

I tried copying the shortcut in the startup folder, didn't work..

Anyway, thanks for figuring this workaround out, at least now anyone trying the Win7 beta out now can use their phone...

Not a big deal having to click the new shortcut to start it, but if someone does come up with a way to make it autostart, please do share with us all how you made it work.

Thanks again! MagicJack sure does save a lot of money versus my old phone bill so an extra click of the mouse is really nothing. I'm happy!

An error has occurred for task MagicJack Start. Error message: User account restriction error. The possible reasons are that blank passwords not allowed, or that a policy restriction has been enforced.

Does this mean I have to password my darn user account?

I never ran into that error. It sounds like your user account on Windows 7 doesn't have sufficient privileges to run the software. Try running it as an admin and see if that resolves the issue.

They were only tested on XP and Vista. Windows 7 is a whole new ball game, so I am not sure how compatible they will be on that OS.

I'd like to know if the "route" command has the same idiosyncrasy as it does in Vista. With XP, you can route to a non-existent IP address on your LAN. That will cause the proxy server address to be inaccessible. But, with Vista it has to be a real IP address, and not the address of the source machine where the route command is being executed.

I'm curious if that was a Vista bug, or a new MS "feature."

Did that as well and since I'm the only user on this pc which is at home, I have full admin rights also. I guess its due to a clean install of Windows 7 on a totally new system that's giving me the issues. But everything that's been posted so far, does not work in this install of win7 32 bit.

Thank you SO much.. i am aggressively running the windows 7 beta with no time for nonsense! I have asked MJ for a workaround with windows 7. ha haa ha ha ha ha ha yeah.. You have saved me from running MJ on my backup server.. it is once again quiet here in the office (at home)

Your solution DOES work on a standalone instalation. I created a shortcut for it and then stuck it in the startup folder! Have a great day!

Whoo HOO! I forgot I plugged my MagicJack into a friends XP computer and was able to retrieve the folder! All is well now -- have it up and working on Windows 7.

Hints: Hard to get quotes to stick in shortcut - press ENTER in the text box and NOT the OK button on the panel.

I can make outgoing calls but when someone calls, it rings and I can't and they can't hear any audio. My firewall is wide open and my router is too. Scratching head trying to figure it out.

I lost my audio after installing magicjack. Right click on the speaker icon in the lower right sytem tray. Select playback devices. Make sure that your speaker high definition audio device is set to default. Then below that set your speaker usb audio device to communication default. Then click OK and restart.

I got it working by setting it in Vista compatablity mode. Now, it's using 50% of my CPU (P4 D 3ghz) and 500mb system memory. It may have always done this -- didn't check until now. If I don't start MJ, my CPU runs 1-3% typically and much less memory usage. It's plugged into the computer and NOT on a usb hub.

I have done some research and it turns out that Vista has the same problem. When you connect 2 or more audio devices and restart, Windows defaults back to the first USB audio device. Apparently many people have the same complaint I do and there may not be a way to change it. So every restart I have to manually select my default audio device in Windows, hard to believe!

Had exactly the same problem and have not found an answer yet. Have somewhat isolated why in won't run in native mode by doing log comparisons but don't have the know-how to analyze for a solution. Anyone interested in looking at what I've found?

Other people have similar issue when running in compatibility mode, at least as far as increased memory usage. Not sure abound the CPU usage.

I apologize in advance, but I accidently posted this in the wrong area before;

I tried adding the command line shortcut for MagicJack. I get nothing when I plug it into my Windows 7 machine; no light, program, etc. Is anyone else running the 64 bit version of Windows 7?

I have tried all the steps outlined here and still no joy..

It tells me MagicJack has crashed do to a call to NTDLL.dll call in system32,,,of which win7 won't let me remove or rename because I'm not a trusted installer.

I have full control as a administrator,,, so what the heck is this "trusted install" ?

At lease I have a dual boot system,,, vista and win7 so I can still use my magicjack, but would love to get it to work in win7.

The one thing I can't get is the quotes to stay in the short cut ?
"C:\Users\YourUserName\appdata\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicjack.exe" /scf _magicJackPersonalDataRoot X:\magicJack

Any help greatly appreciated,,, TIA

You should not need the quotes if you are not trying to bridge any space characters. Although putting quotes like that is redundant, MS probably erases them because they don't trust you to be master of your own computer. (That's not an insult to you, but to them.)

As an FYI for you all. I recently installed build 7048 of Win7 and MagicJack appears to work out of the box. I get the typical "Please wait for a lifetime of free calls" (or whatever is says) and then the service starts on it's own since going to this version.

So, MS changed something and it appears to allow the device to work as it does in XP/Vista.

This would be the latest RC1,,, not a beta,,, the one I just DL'ed was Windows 7 RC1/Build 7057.XX/(Rel-March 5, 2009) 32Bit.
