Just got a new MJ (3 weeks?) and was having audio issues (I hear choppy audio and the receiver hears draining/dying audio with intermittent static).
Recycled through all the USB ports on the PC and the laptop. No luck. Tried two different phones (both corded) and a brand new USB headset. No luck again. Ran magicfix (updates) contacted tech support...they had me reformat the MJ usb drive, add some sites to the "trusted sites" list, change DNS servers. Added port forwarding to the router (don't have any software firewall on either computers). Added PC with MJ to router DMZ. Still nothing. Sorry to say this but their tech support wasn't much help. I hope to get some insight from you guys though
My ISP is good (6 Mbps/2 Mbps). Before I try buying a QOS (Hawking?) or flashing my router with tomato for QOS, anyone have any last suggestions?
Magic Jack has made the following attempts to fix this piece of crap product:
Upgraded Software
Hot fix link is dead
Background is favored
Switched UBS jacks
Tried different phones
Cut holes in the firewall
Disconnected Virus
Made MagicJack.com a trusted site
Rebooted Router
Replaced physical jacks at my expense
Made MJ a high priority

What is your MOS from website http://testyourvoip.com run the voip test there without your magicjack plugged in and post back your MOS. Also save your details so if there is a problem we can look at those later.

You can try following the diagnostic instructions on the wiki FAQ for fixing "choppy" voice. It explains how to determine whether QoS will help.
You can also try changing the proxy MJ connects to. (Also described on the wiki FAQ.). Some proxies appear to be over sold, or have bad routing relative to your location. (I need to update the choppy voice how-to to refer to this as a possible solution too.).
Also TestYourVoip reported a 3.8 MOS score to Boston.

That looks good to me. The wiki FAQ entry for choppy/garbled voice describes how to compare performance between your computer being quiet and with normal network activity. That would give you an idea whether QoS would be worth investing in. That was your original question. (It also suggests other possible remedies). You could try that. But, with those speeds and quality, unless you're doing a lot of other network activities during a call, I don't think QoS would help much.
I would try changing the proxy your MJ connects to. It's described on the wiki FAQ. There appears to be differences in proxies, and the network paths to different one.

Mark
I was downloading at 800 KB/s and tried making a call, I couldn't notice anything out of the ordinary (in terms of quality deterioration)
I doubt a QOS will work. But will try everything in the WIKI, if nothing works, I'll get back to you.
Thanks again

That is certainly not a horrible score. It appears there are a few pauses in the 20ms or so range. Otherwise I suspect your score would have been higher.
Hopefully this is representative of your normal conditions. You may want to try running the tests several times just to make sure.
If those pauses are coming from competition with other processes on your computer you may want to go into task manager and give magicJack.exe elevated priority by right clicking on it in the task list and selecting "Above Normal" or higher. Then make a few calls and see if you can see an improvement. If so look into the Prio program which can make the priority change permanent.
