Incoming Calls: Dropped

Post by meengla »

Hi,
Just got my MagicJack. I thought this would work out fine but I am already seeing that all too often incoming calls are dropped--actually, the phone does not ring at all when that happens.
The MagicJack is connected directly to a USB port on an XP Pro desktop. The phone is a simple corded phone. Every few incoming calls are dropped with my calling cell phone hearing 2-3 small beeps and displaying: 'Call Ended. Dropped'.
Tried with 2 other cell phones and same result. I have just downloaded and applied the Update/patch as well but to no avail. Of course their crappy chat does not run in both IE and FF.
The computer is connected by an ethernet cable to a BellSouth wireless modem+router (in one device); I have 6mbps DSL connection.
Should I just forget about MagicJack to receive calls?
Thanks.

I would disconnect the handset, and try using the softphone with a headset. See if there's a difference.

Thanks. But even if that works then it would not be a solution: I can't have a headphone on all the time. Problem is the incoming calls.

Knowledge is power. If you can isolate the problem to the usb/device/handset it tells you where to direct your efforts. If you find the softphone/headset suffers from the same problem, it tells you where to direct your efforts.

Mark,
Correct.
Well, I took MagicJack to a Vista computer and tried there. It worked once then I got a new message 'Your call cannot be completed at this time. Please try later'.
That was with the handset.
I removed teh handset, hooked up a headset and tried the soft-phone approach. Worked once but then the same message 'Your call....'.
Vista is also attached via wired ethernet connection.
Thanks for your help.

I would try a different proxy as described in the wiki FAQ.

Thank you, again. Mark.

is the info about MagicJack proxy server.

I think I should just stick with MagicJack to call out for longer call durations and use my cell phone for short incoming calls.
Starting the new year we are trying to control cost by eliminating expensive AT&T Contract base cell phone plans by using Prepaid (Net10) cell phones + MagicJack.

Hopefully, MagicJack will resolve these issues pretty soon.
