Outgoing calls don't ring

Post by Boondocs »

Weird I made a call and it was working fine. I restarted the TC and now when I make a call I don't here the ring. It seems to be connecting fine and making phone calls but not ringing for outgoing calls.

Welcome to Hell (Magic Jack Hell)

Here is a summary of what the "TECH CHAT" will tell you--it took 17 times to extract all of this and ten hours:

Upgraded Software
Hot fix link is dead
Background is favored
Switched UBS jacks
Tried different phones
Cut holes in the firewall
Disconnected Virus
Made MagicJack.com a trusted site
Rebooted Router
Replaced physical jacks at my expense
Made MJ a high priority
:?:

That's funny cause I did most of that last night. At the end of our 2 hour chat session she finally figured out that I was talking about the outgoing ring when I call someone not when someone calls me.

So did you ever figure it out? I am running the MJ on a TC and it was working fine until I updated my anti virus program (Avast). After that I could not hear the phone ringing when I called someone. I will try uninstalling the AV and see if that helps. I was thinking about trying it on my laptop just to verify it is the MJ not my setup.

Same thing here on outgoing calls. It started about 2 days ago and I do not use Avast NOR a TC. Was working just JUST before that.. I DID do a Windows UPDATE on the 13th. So maybe that is the culprit??
Kinda weird not to hear the phone ring and then someone pick up.

So if anyone has any ideas I am open...

Weird. Have you tried the MJ on another computer?

Only 1 PC here so that is not an option. As I said been working A OK since Aug 08. This JUST starting happening a few days ago.
Very weird, but hopefully like a lot of MJ glitches, it will clear on its own. MAYBE a server problem, who knows..

I appears that MJ sent a software update 2-3 days ago. I was having the same problem with ringing. First outgoing calls wouldn't ring, then I couldn't make any outgoing calls, then it finally froze my puter. After a reboot the MJ wouldn't work at all and in the softphone window it told me to click here to retrieve update, then it would give me an error 3 connect to the Internet and try again.
What I ended up doing was...to delete the MJ directory, reboot, plug in the MJ, let it reload the software, now everything is back to normal.
Whom ever is in charge of writing and implementing these software & firmware "upgrades/updates" does not know what they are doing and should be FIRED! Every problem that I have had with my MJ since day one has had something to do with an "upgrade/update"

Did you get the "LUCKY YOU" message for your update 2-3 days ago? I have not seen that message since the"INFAMOUS" 12/21/08 update..
I am reluctant to delete anything right now, unless it gets worse then sure, why not at that point.
I really doubt there are only 2 or 3 people with this problem.... But hey stranger things have happened

Nope, I didn't get the "Lucky You", just the bad behavior described.
I'm seeing others complaining in other threads about some of the things that I mentioned.
You don't really have to delete the MJ directory, just move or rename it. Then you can easily undo the "update" if it doesn't work.

Weird thing................. I JUST tried dialing out again and guess what? I now hear it ring. It was doing it on my landline (and others) since Wed and now all ok. I called 5 times and heard it ring everytime.. Maybe it WAS a server problem on their end.
We shall see it this continues.....

Same here but I run it on a TC and I have it set to reboot every night. If they sent an update it would have reverted back to the day before. It seems to be working again on my end as well so maybe it was one of the famous MJ glitches lol.

I do it just because no particular reason. I was running antivirus but loaded the xp image from this site and now it runs smoother. My thinking behind it is if the TC gets a virus or any or malware each night it will be gone.

You are ,of course, correct. As our unprotected TCs are"vulnerable" to viruses and malware, rebooting is the primary way to clean our systems. I am wondering (and our resident knowledge bases can help here :D ) if rebooting that frequently has any effect on our limited flash rewrite DOM.
I haven't had any problem with infections of any kind and I doubt if I reboot anymore than every 3-4 weeks for whatever reason.
If there is no harm, I might consider setting my TC to reboot every week or so . Thanks for your contributions.

I believe that the TC uses the flash as a read only which I don't think affects the life of the card. Only if you write to it does it affect the life of the unit. I have EWF set so that it does not save any information so I would think it is only using the ram drive of the unit. At least that's how I was looking at it.
