You are right -- folks here may be able to convince it to work with MJ. It looks like an ASUS 500 (another router with USB), but with some software hooks already added in. Like the ASUS, it will probably be Linux based, and that will allow it to run OpenWRT, DD-WRT, and the like. Since Fonera are talking about the box being able to support devices more complex than a memory stick or a Bluetooth dongle, they are delivering a big hint that the box will be equipped with more memory and a stronger processor than other Linux based routers.

We can only hope.

The software builtin the dongle will work in Windows only, however, it might be possible that someone make a driver for the tigerjet chip and turn the mj dongle to a pure USB ATA and use asterisk to register MJ(thus break TOS)----but I don't put much hope on it, there are *already* lots of routers around with usb port builtin, you can plug flash drive/bluetooth dongle even usb sound sound, but not the mj dongle....

Indeed, there are such devices. But, they tend to have very limited CPU and memory capacity. This device seems to be offering more.

My bet is that the same people who have gotten MJ to work on a thin client will be able to coerce MJ to work on the new Fon router.

assume the new Fon routers are still base on Linux, I see little, if any hope for it, as nobody has managed to run MJ dongle on a full blown desktop Linux system yet...so how can we expect this to be done on embedded ones?

I see the keyword on Linux with a dongle as "yet". As of now, quite a few people run MJ dongle-less on Asterisk or a Linux softphone once having got the SIP credentials. I don't believe the with-dongle solution is out of reach; I just have no personal need to pursue it.

TigerJet has posted a Linux SDK for anyone to use in developing this interface. My guess is that the first usable MJ-on-Fon solution will comprise grabbing the SIP credentials (using a Windows PC) and then plugging them into a Linux softphone that has been recompiled with the TigerJet drivers included. Such an endeavor is either just beyond my reach or just within my reach, I'm not quite sure which, but I am confident that it is well within the reach of some members of this community.

the control panel is windows friendly, i think with the right plug in it may work.

I thought that I would plug the majic jack into my router's usb just for kicks. I have dial tone. I cannot dial in or out to that phone however. I have the router set to use the usb port as a usb drive. Kind of makes me wonder what is possible....
