Use my own answ machine rather than MJ's VM
I would like to use the answering machine of my Uniden cordless phone system rather than MJ's. Is there any way to do that? Is there a way to disable MJ's voice mail?
Bypassing the MJ Voicemail before 4.5 rings
When I make a landline call to my MagicJack number, the MagicJack voicemail seems to cut in at about 4 1/2 rings. I'm seeing that my AT&T digital answering machine has a "Ring Select" feature that allows it to intercept calls at anywhere from 2 thru 7 rings, so it appears that any Ring Select feature from 4 down to 2 should work.
Then your only management decision, if you want to switch back and forth, is whether to disconnect your answering machine, or change the Ring Select number back and forth.

I pretty much agree except a couple of minor issues.
1. I found I could always count on MJ to pick up at 4.5 rings. Sometimes MJ would pickup just shy of 4 rings so I had to set my Panasonic to 3 rings to be bullet proof. (Whether it was the Panasonic changing or MJ I don't really know).
2. Most answering machines and phone with answering machines as of late have and enable/disable button so you don't have to go thru the ordeal of disconnecting it if you want to change back to MJ.

George,
2-3 rings it is then. Makes sense to me.
Yes, even my rickety old answering machine has a shutoff button, which I hadn't paid attention to.
BTW, how much time does the MJ voicemail allow for callers? I seem to remember seeing a 3-minute limit somewhere, but I'm not sure if that was for MJ, or some other VM system.

tradertx,
Go with 3 rings, 2 rings and will get some folks P. O. at you for mandating a filter of the call before you answer.
Now that you have asked about the VM time limit on MJ, I honestly don't remember ever reading a spec on that here or on the MJ site.
But for a none technical question like that I would think the Tech Chat bunch should be able to answer that one... well OK maybe not but that would still be easier than searching their WEB.
I just thought of the perfect way to find out, have your wife or girlfriend send you a "Talk Dirty" call and don't pick up. That way you can find out the limit of the VM and your limit to erotic stimuli, it would be interesting to see which is shorter.
