Internet still disconnects using MJ
Almost every few mins MJ disconnects the Ethernet adapter completely and attempts to reconnect. Tried 3 different routers: Dlink G, Trendnet G, Dlink N. Some days, seems fine even after a 10 min call. Most of the time, few minutes, then dead while still on call, then voice again; other calls, the adapter looses connection and reconnects. After a few times that happens, the automatic connection fails, so manually have to do repair.
Configuration: Windows XP Pro, D-Link DIR-615, QoS enabled (tried both auto manage and manual 256k uplink).
Note: Usually the PC with MJ maintains a better connection while other PCs on LAN loose connections (yes, multiple). This is even with the newest N routers.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm a little confused as to what exactly is happening here... Are you saying that all the machines on your network are losing their network connections, regardless of whether the MJ is plugged into them or not?
This sounds more like a problem with your network than anything else. I don't see how the MJ could cause machines to lose their network connection.

Does all of this happen if you pull out the MJ?? This really sounds like you've got a flaky router or ISP dropping your connection since its happening to all your boxes.doublehelix wrote:Almost every few mins MJ disconnects the Ethernet adapter completely and attempts to reconnect. Re: Internet still disconnects using MJ
Are you using a cordless phone (particularly 2.4 Ghz)? Often times cordless phones interfere with wireless networks, causing the internet connection to have to be re-established. If you are using a cordless phone, try a corded one.doublehelix wrote:Almost every few mins MJ disconnects the Ethernet adapter completely and attempts to reconnect. If you are using a corded phone, I'd try using wireshark to do a network capture to try to diagnose what network issues you are having...

Thanks for your help. This happens * only * with USB MJ plugged in a PC and a call is active. without MJ, never disconnected even under load. I have scheduled downloads etc, no problems. Exception is when the Comcast ISP goes down (verifiable blinking light on modem) and this does not happen often.
For almost a year I had ATA working and never had this problem, but its been a few months now it did not work (may be need to update the IPs etc). The past few days, decided to plug in the jack and use it from a PC. So it started all over again.
The other two PCs are wireless. The disconnect is not simultaneous, one after another. The MJ I keep usually on a wired PC, so the reconnect is instantaneous and not so much noticeable. Whenever this happens the MJ call silence is noticeable too (ie, active call, voice on and off with no problems with internet on this PC using MJ).
Normal scenarios:
1. Pickup the phone and dial... Other PC looses connection either instantly or after a few seconds, and tries a reconnect.
2. Ocassionally, using the phone is fine and PC looses connection only sometime. After reconnect the connection stays for some time.
3. Plug in the MJ on a PC with wireless. When the connection is lost it cannot reconnect always automatically and have to do a repair.
I thought it was the router. I changed it a while back. Had the ATA going so everything was fine. Now, thought may be use a better router with better configuration control. Got the Dlink N yesterday and there was no change. Again without MJ plugged in, no problems so far.

@Sherwin Williams: Actually, yes. It is 2.4Ghz phone. I will try this again with another. I am in TN but I did not have this problem while I was in another State though using the same phone and I was actually using a lesser speed DSL than the Cable I have now. I will try a normal corded phone tonight.
Also, you can try moving the base station of the cordless phone farther away from the router and try changing the cordless phone's channel (if you have control over that) or the router's WiFi channel. All of these things should tighten up your wireless connection so phone conversations don't become loose so often.

Try a direct plug in with the ethernet cable and see if it still happens.doublehelix wrote:Almost every few mins MJ disconnects the Ethernet adapter completely and attempts to reconnect. I had the same sort of problem - the 2.4GHz phone shut down the 2.4GHz wireless router connections. I simply changed the 802.11 wireless channel until I found one that didn't interfere with the phone (or the microwave for that matter). At least in my case, I was using channel 6. When I changed the router to channel 1, no more interference.

Thanks. Changing the WiFi channels almost seemed to work. Ch 1 seems bad and 11 too even though 1-6-11 were supposed to be non-interfering. I also tried to change channels on the phone, but not always working right. Still could not find my corded phone. Ch 4 worked for some time. Next day, nothing changed and kept disconnecting again.
Just one thing, changing channels has no problems with the internet use. When MJ call is active, the PC wireless speed keeps going down every few seconds until 1.0 Mbps. When the call is not active, it seems to sometimes go down but come back up quick.
Did WiFi scan. Looks like all 5 routers in my area are on Ch 6. That is why I tried 1 and 11 before using 4. 7-10 did not work out so well at all.
Still on the new Dlink N. I will try this with the G and return this N if it is not really helping. More trial-error tomorrow.
