Restart

Post by Tron00 »

Ok, here is my trouble. Magic Jack works great for a while but then it seems to degrade (Get choppy or person on other end wont hear me) after a while and requires a reboot of the computer. So I now have the computer set to reboot at 3am each day. Well now when it reboots magic Jack will not work. If I dial a number it seems to dial but then it goes right back to a dial tone. The only way to get it to work is to go to "Advanced Users" in Magic Jack and select to "restart" it there. Then Magic Jack works fine until the next reboot of the computer.

Ok, I think I have a clue to this. Seems to have started when I installed a powered USB hub. What is happening is that when I reboot the computer the hub stays energized. If I remove the powered hub all seems ok, but then I do not have the advantage of the powered hub. I need it to use MJ on the whole house system, and plug in all my phones. So now I have to figure out a way to turn off power and turn it back on in the hub.... LOL.... Solve one problem, create another!!!!!!

In another thread you said you have to reboot and then menu->restart the softphone. If that's all you need to do, you can

1) Disable autorun (google for instructions how. It involves editing your registry and drilling down into services->cdrom-> and changing a "1" to "0." Or, using "tweakUI" which comes free in MS's PowerTools.).
2) Write a .bat command file containing the instructions to start MJ, kill it, and start it again.
3) Put the .cmd file in your startup folder.

The instructions for starting MJ (without the spash screen) and killing it are in the wiki's how-to section.

You'd need to google for "how to sleep in a .bat file xp" to find a "sleep" command you can use to put some time between the start, kill, start.
