Call disconnects after every 5 minutes talktime
Hi friends,
I need some inputs, help which will be highly appreciated.I have contacted MJ support and live chat for like 10 times and they gave me all stupid steps which never work.
My call ends after every 5minutes talktime.I checked DNS server settings, ran MJ recovery tool, upgrades, checked device management, cleared folders on registry.Hmm none helped.
Please guide me if somebody had the same issue.I really appreciate if somebody could send in response.
Thanks
snv

Have you yet read through the postings on this forum to see what others in your situation have done?
If you have already read them and have not found a solution to your problem, please read them again in order to learn how to properly describe your symptoms so that the other volunteer members here have a chance of helping you to solve your problem.
Unfortunately, just saying that your calls get cut off yields nothing useful to begin an investigation.

I did search for existing posts to see if anyone already had the same issue.I have seen few posts regd call disconnects for every 1hour/2 hrs.
I am not sure how detail I should explain about the issue but here is the try - Call drops off automatically after 5minutes talk time.I tried all steps that MJ technical support asked me to do - do Recovery setpup, upgrade, change DNS address, clear registry entries and try to reinstall setup again. Also I use broadband connection for internet and never had this problem over past 1yr of usage.I can paste all steps but I was hoping the problem is being understood.
mberlant - Iam not sure what type details are you expecting me to describe.I thought it was rough answer to what I have posted.Somebody who may not be very technical as you might be cannot figure out what details can be expected.
I did make an effort to search for solution for similar problem and my search based on "SUbject" didn't lead me to any answers.
I hope somebody can help me fix this issue.
Thanks

Are you using a handset or headset (with softphone)? If a handset, a wired or cordless handset?snvl_s wrote:My call ends after every 5minutes talktime.I checked DNS server settings, ran MJ recovery tool, upgrades, checked device management, cleared folders on registry.Hmm none helped.
Are you connected to your router (or modem) wirelessly or with a wire?

A corded phone?snvl_s wrote:I tested with different phone and still same issue.
Which router? Did you try bypassing the router? (Be aware that doing so can expose you to risk if you're not using a software firewall.).snvl_s wrote:Internet connection is through router with wire.Iam unable to nail down the issue here.Iam not sure what the deal is.
Generally speaking: The more details you provide, the more help you'll receive (compared to back-and-forth Q and A).

mberlant,Mark - Thank you for your both response.
This is not actually on my computer.Iam trying to fix this issue for my sis located in different country.Iam trying to find out what internet service they have and router details.Trying to fix this issue connecting on remote session.
Im not sure if I give correct answers to your questions with my minimal computer knowledge. So please be patience.
Internet service on MJ machine - It is wired connection from junction box in the building which is connected through modem to the machine. So it may not be a wireless router.
Incoming and outgoing calls with cordless phone or corded phone is the same problem.I guess it must be something to do with internet connection. Also IP address is not static it that matters. If it is internet connection, what are the steps that I need to make sure about?
Steps that I followed so far:
1. Changed DNS server type
2. For windows firewall , added exceptions for ports # 5060,#5070
3. Removed Registry entries
4. PC uses AVG freeware ,checked the exceptions if MJ is blocked.Do I need to change settings for AVG?
5. On Trusted sites,added both "https://reg.talk4free.com" & "https://my.magicjack.com"
6. Installed Upgrade.exe and followed other no-use instructions by live chat support.
Thanks for inputs and please let me know if there is something that I need to verify and fix the problem.
Thanks

The country may block VoIP. Some countries do that, especially when it's a developing country and the national phone service (and internet service) is run by a well-connected family.snvl_s wrote:mberlant,Mark -
I would bypass the router to see if the router is the problem. There have been other reports of buggy routers dropping inbound calls at 60 seconds. Five minutes sounds a bit much. But, if it happens at exactly 5 minutes, it sounds suspiciously similar.

Had similar problems:
1. Router? Tried that.
2. Cordless phone channel search? Tried that.
Phone disconnects (drop calls with dial tone) continuously on a scheduled interval. First every 10-15 mins followed for some time by every 2-3 mins constantly. Someone has suggested that (1) MJ probably does not have proper agreements in place with using free servers; (2) the server you may be on is not so good so the calls are dropped.

Today, it was a call drop nightmare. This does not happen on short calls and calls are very clear. You might have to try it several different times and post the steps you took. Major trial and error. Something might click.

This piece had no issues for almost 1 year and just started seeing the issue.I dont think VoIP is blocked as I know other neighbour in same building use MJ and have no issues.

The fact that you are getting any connections at all indicates that your parameter settings are basically good. If you had NAT problems or ISP blocking problems you would probably not be able to successfully connect at all.
One more thing to look at in your router is the MTU setting. Often the factory setting is "automatic" or 1500. Try reducing this to 1492 or 1432 and see if it helps. This is the setting that limits the size of the packets that your router sends out into the world. By sending smaller packets you may find that more of them get through to the other end.
By the way, you never mentioned anything about the voice quality you are observing. Is it good, bad, choppy, etc.? The more details you can provide about your symptoms, the better.

Similar Problem
Calls will drop every 10 to 15 minutes. This MJ worked fine for 6 months, now it is acting funny. The calls are crystal clear, but it just drops to dead air.
Buffalo router
Sony cordless phone
I have not had a conversation on my laptop drop yet, but I have not gone over the 10 minute mark when using speakers and built in mic. The PC in which the actual unit is connected is hardwired, and my softphone version is on my laptop and of course wireless.
