Stroths MJ Utilities 1.6 -SIP Info & More *8/2 UPDATE*

Re: how it works
I got my Magic Jack today and got my SIP info after about 5 tries. Entered the info into Siphon on my jailbroken iphone as per the instructions on the site posted by kula. There is a small delay over wifi but not bad at all. The quality is not so good over 3G but it does work.kula21 wrote:on my iphone there is a small voice delay but

Thanks for this great app Stroth.
Did you try upgrading your Magicjack software before getting the SIP? I was not able to get mine either until I upgraded using Stroth's Utility. After the upgrade it still took a few tries but I was able to get it.lycuidice wrote:I've ran the Suite's SIP sniff prog (both ver. 1.5 and 1.6) w/o success. Does the the prog still work for everyone? im on an XP 32 machine...could it be that maybe i need to pick a slower or faster machine to deal w/ the delay that the SIP sniff uses?
Also, does anybody know what would happen if you tried to connect to the server with two different devices at the same time? Like if the Magic Jack was connected and I accidentally tried to connect with Siphon on my iphone? Would they detect this and ban the device?
This is discussed heavily in other threads in this forum. You are licensed to use the service only with the softphone that came with your MJ device. While using it at all with Siphon (or any other softphone or ATA) is contrary to the ToS, using the service simultaneously from two different locations is both easy to detect and a very clear violation of this covenant.F3DRIVR wrote:Also, does anybody know what would happen if you tried to connect to the server with two different devices at the same time? I ended up finding it....i had to adjust the start delay value...thanks tho. =]F3DRIVR wrote:Did you try upgrading your Magicjack software before getting the SIP? Can't get the info
When I run the "Get Current Sip Info" it stops and starts the magicjack a couple of time and then says that it is searching for the data. Eventually it gives me the message:
No SIP Data Found. Please try again
I try again and the same happens. What am I missing here.
BTW, There were two changes I needed to make to the config to get even this far:
a) I needed to change the drive letter from e: to f:
b) I needed to set path3 and I wonder of this is the issue, I set it to :
c:\users\me\AppData\Roaming
"me" is who I am

duncanSF,
Have you set the path to your MJ's PHONE drive and to the applications data path (ie. path3) in Stroh's MJ Utilities Update Configuration button?
Also I have found that you might need to click the Upgrade MagicJack Software button and let it try to update before the Get Current SIP Information will allow it to get the data.

I try a few time and it work, changing a few thing;
Setting:
---------Start Delay: 3
---------Drive letter: F
And go down to MagicJack in service mode path:
---------Path1 : C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
---------Path2 : C:\Documents and Settings\--Your --\Application Data
Then go down to MJNONSERVICEMODE:
---------Path3 : C:\Documents and Settings\---- Your ---\Application Data
Hope this will help.
I couldn't get this utility to work at all.. the upgrader does not download latest version.. the checker does not work in it's own folder It reads the old version because the upgrade.exe updater is named the same thing the magicjack upgrade is named.. confuses the application completely.. secondly SIP is not working either.. worked when I tried it as a service but now that I put it back as non-service because I was having too many issues run as a service none of these features are working at all except for remove splash.
I am having the same trouble as the poster above me. I have already done all of the settings correctly such as setting the correct drive letters and paths for the correct folders. However when trying to get the SIP data, I just can not get anything. Sometimes I will get a textbox pop up with no ability to do anything with it, but other than that nothing is happening. I have tried all of the start delay times from 0, 0.1, 0.2 to 4 seconds, and I have not gotten any success. If anyone can give me some help, I will be very grateful.
Well after the trying to run as a service mess.. I completely removed all traces of MagicJack and reinstalled it.. I was than able to get this utility to work and give me SIP.. only after I got it working normally did I than attempt to make it a service again.. have to see if it works as a service last attempt the calls would drop when I tried calling out and I couldn't hear those who called in.

For anyone that gets the message about no sip info found regardless of what delay setting you try then go get the app by magicjackhacks.com. It came out well before I setup these utilities and should work for anyone. It just takes 5 minutes for it to run.

cool thanks.. well after creating the service WITHOUT copying or moving the mjusb folder the service works fine.. BEWARE of moving the default folders MagicJack hates it with a passion so them running as a service a better way is total crap if you decide to move the location of the default folder.. now that I have it running in the proper folder location it installs in by default magicjack has been real stable for me so far. Since running it this way the SIP retrieval is working now too.

I have found this to be truth, hitting the update button before you try to get your SIP Information will work 100% of the time for some unknown reason.

Finally got it
After several weeks of trying Stroths suite, usually a handful of attempts with various settings every time I went on line, there it was. I was just about to ask if the program was still good and what would it look like when and if I ever got a hit when lo and behold a textbox I had not seen before. The Holy Grail!
Sorry I can't specify what the correct combination was for me but if you persist, it will come.
Thanks Stroths.

mac version/alternative
Is there a Mac version of this utility? If no, is there a SIP grabber for Macs someone can recommend?
thanks

Hey here is a tip. Unfortunately MagicJack will get on a bad server and start really sounding garbled so I created a batch file on my desktop that has this in it to restart my service.
I found it works quite reliably and a couple of restarts usually at worst and it will get on a server that is semi-decent when this happens.
Code: Select all
sc stop MagicJack
PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 10000 >NUL
sc start MagicJackWorked But having problem with ATA

STROTHS! Didn't realize you had a reputation here as well as from the PPCGeeks world!
Good to see a fellow PPCGeeks member, and that you're still pushing devices to their limits- I just got the magic jack, and as soon as I heard it possible to strip the SIP info, I imagined using it on my Sprint WM device over EVDO.
If I can handle broadvoice with SJphone for PPC, I don't see why I couldn't do this as well...

ATA = Analogue Telephone AdapterA50SNAKE wrote:my turn for a noob questions, whats an ATA? i know what a softphone is...yeah me...hahaha....thanks.
It is a device that can directly hook up to the internet (no computer required) and supports attaching a regular old phone to an RJ11 port in the device.
Eg. Linksys PAP2 is an ATA
I have tried v1.5 and v1.6 and can't get them to work for me. Here is what I get when I press these buttons:
v1.5
Get Current SIP Info: InvalidMJFlashDriveLetter in Config.ini or MJ not plugged in. Correct and try again
Upgrade MJ Software: Same message as above.
Check MJ Version: You are currently running version -Dated 4/11/2009
V1.6
Same as above, except the following:
Display Existing SIP Info: No Data Found. Click 1st Button to get current info.
When I click 1st Button, which is Get Current SIP Info, I get the above message under v1.5.
I am running Windows XP.
Can someone help please? Thanks.

SIP Creds
Mu,
Here's a copy of previous posting that has worked for some folks.
Here's what works for me. Have Stroths utility (I used 1.6) ready to go.
Click on the MJ Softphone Menu (think it's the second button from the right on the top.
Select Restart
When MJ is showing the progress bar about 3/4 of the way across,
Click on Stroths utility to get SIP info.
It takes a little time, but don't do anything until you get the nice text box with the info or the little box that says SIP info not found.
It may take a couple times but this has been pretty reliable for me.
Let us know if this works for you. If not we'll try something else.

I'm also seeing the same error message with V1.6. I haven't tried 1.5 yet. I'm running Windows XP SP3. I'm not finding anything wrong with the config.ini entries.Zen wrote:I have tried v1.5 and v1.6 and can't get them to work for me. Here is what I get when I press these buttons:

I'm not the most informed person here, but I did get V1.6 to work for me last night. In the config.ini (Update Configuration button), make sure that the name in your paths is changed to the user name you are logged into. Make sure Path3 is the proper one for the OS you are using - I found it had a Vista path even though I'm using XP - copy the XP-type path up and change the user name in the path. You have to retry over and over until it is able to capture the SIP data - It's trying to hit a narrow window in time when it can snapshot that data in memory. I had to alter the delay setting in the Configuration. I stepped it up until it successfully captured the SIP data. I think it captured at 3.8 for me.
Now, if I could only figure out how to get those settings into Fring on my iPhone.

I did not configure Path1, Path2, and Path3 because I wasn't running magic jack as a windows service, but I remember one of the messages complaining about path 3.
I'll try again tonight after work.
The script has to stop it at just the right time (a very short window) when the SIP Credentials are in memory. There is enough variance in the timing that you may have to repeat many times before being lucky enough to find it. You can improve that luck by ramping up the delay time in your credentials. Remember that bar graph that fills in left-to-right as MagicJack starts up? Ideally the shutdown should begin when it's about 3/4 full. If yours is consistently shutting down MagicJack before that time, increase the delay setting. Again...it worked for me at 3.8 after several tries.
PMDUMP
Got it to work. Path 3 configuration was the problem.
Where does the capture data from PMDUMP get stored? I would like to manually inspect the data.
There should be additional parameters such as STUN server and/or Outbound Proxy that are used to transverse NAT.

Re: PMDUMP
The path to where the SIP info is saved is defined in the MagicJackSuite config.Sassy Sue wrote:Got it to work. Path 3 configuration was the problem.

There should be additional parameters such as STUN server and/or Outbound Proxy that are used to transverse NAT.
-Start the MagicJack Suite.
-Click the + next to Optional.
-Click on MySIPInfoLocation and that should be the path to where it is saved. You can modify it to put it where ever you want.
You can use a public STUN server. Proxy should be listed in the MySIPInfo file.
Hope that helps.

A long thread but very useful thread - is there a Wiki or step by step direction on how one can do this on PAP2?
On a side note, how can one print the whole thread for offline reading (before I go an try this out wanted to ensure I have the latest update in this thread)
