Incoming calls don't come through

Post by theplunger »

Today:
My incoming calls don't come through. When I answer, I get dead air. They hear some message (not my voicemail). I called my own cell phone and it worked. Then I call the number that was calling me and it didn't work. I had to unplug and replug magic jack to get the thing to work.

The other day:
I chatted with magic jack the other day, because I was having the same issue. They reformatted my drive and did some upgrade. All my numbers were gone. :( But, it work for a few days. Now, broke again.

I don't want to go though a reformat nor having to plung and unplug the magic jack all the time. I looked into changing my "proxy", that blew my mind. :( I'm not sure what to do? I really need this phone to work and can't change my number. Please help me.
:(

P.S.: My friends call this Cracker Jack!

Problems

In my opinion, their are far to many weak spots to use MagicJack as a vital number, especially when they currently do not support porting your number, in or out. I would try the simple things. First, MagicJack will suffer when used on an un-healthy PC. If you know enough about computers to clean it up, it probably already is. If not, may want to consider restoring PC to factory with recovery disc or HDD image. Instructions for this should be with PC paperwork. Next stage would be your internet connection. Check for compatibility issues with your router, if using one. I have read that their are some issues with Linksys routers using older firmwares. Once you have a healthy PC, good broadband internet, it will now be up to either your MagicJack dongle or the MagicJack service (the proxy you referred to). I have also read comments about MagicJack out selling their servers capabilities. I am in the Atlanta area and so far have had good success, although I do not rely on it completely. I also have not had to make any configuration changes to my PC. I do, however, work in the IT field so my PC and broadband are optimal.

You need to find out exactly what the other people hear when trying to call you, and what service provider they are using (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.) when placing this failed call.

Have these people ever been able to reach you on your MJ? Do many people complain about this, or just a few? Can anyone else reach you successfully on your MJ? You only mentioned that you were able to call out to your cell phone -- how about calling in?

Please let us know.
