Can I install MJ without the USB dongle and use it on a PDA or pocket PC with a wifi connection?
Are there any particular brands or models that work or don't work?
Such as....
iPod Touch
HP iPAQ
HTC Touch
Palm Tungsten
Dell Axim
Palm Pilot
Blackberry
etc.....

Many of these have very limited memory storage. How much hard drive space does the MJ take?
Also, when installing the MJ dongleless - is it necessary to first install the dongle, then copy the necessary files, then remove the donlge? If so, many of these devices do not have a full-size USB-port. How would I install the files? Many of them have SD card expansion slots. Could I copy the MJ files from the dongle to a SD card?

Absolutely NOT!!!
I think a lot of the responses to this thread have sorely missed the point of your original question.
Since no PDA readily available runs Win XP or Vista, they summarily fail the requirements called for by the MJ hardware. Have never seen a current model PDA with a full sized USB port....Strike two
About your only means to use the calling functionality of the MJ service is to grab your SIP credentials and use them to properly configure a softphone supported the OS of your PDA. If you are using a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device, look at Express Talk from http://www.nch.com.au/components/ptalksetup.exe
BEWARE most voip applications fail miserably using EDGE/3G/EVDO broadband due to significant latency inherent in these networks. WiFi or direct connect should be fine

I do have the 770, It is a cool little device but I dont see any practical application for it anymore. It does have a Gizmo Project client and If you want to run MJ you need to find a SIP client... But using it that way is against the TOS. As per the TOS u have to use the MJ client... Again speaking the 770 is nothing but a wifi capable device with limited processing power. I would suggest getting the newer models or even an Ipodtouchcouch-potato wrote:Any thoughts on these?

I believe all Windows Mobile 5 or higher devices have a SIP client built-in.
If the SIP part has been deliberatly removed - there are tools on the 'net to upgraded your device & re-add the software.
Also - the Nokia S60 OS phones have a native SIP client built in. I've got a Nokia N95 8GB and it can use WiFi & connect to Asterisk with no issues. Makes calls right from the standard 'phone' interface, looks & acts the same as using a cellular service.
If I had an MJ account - I could test it with the phone - just lurking trying to decide to get one for use with my Asterisk box.
Granted - that's not a PDA & that's what the original question was about - but a lot of 'smart phones' are more PDA then phone now - so getting one of these & not using the cell function might be a better option then a PDA.
Hope this helps...
