Call forwarding +
What I would like to see is an out of service / or just off, call forward option. For times that electricty is out or the magic jack / computer is not on.
Full service VoIP providers offer this distinction in the form of "backup service", and the like. When the client disconnects from the network for any reason the VoIP service automatically forwards incoming calls to a predetermined phone number, typically the subscriber's cell phone.
The technology is certainly available to support this, but I don't know of anyone who does it by invoking a special voice mail greeting. For example, all of the cell phone companies I have ever dealt with do not distinguish between a live cell phone that went unanswered and an absent cell phone.
What you could do, as a workaround, is to modify your voice mail greeting. You could say something like, "If you got my voice mail after 4 or 5 rings, it's because I couldn't reach the phone in time. If you got my voice mail immediately, it's because I am off the air right now."
Good luck.
