I'm coming up on my first year with MagicJack. I loved this thing up until about 3 months ago. My major problem is dropped calls. When I call someone on my Magicjack, I now know it's going to be a 50/50 chance the call will be disconnected somewhere in the conversation. It could be 5,15 or 20 minutes into the conversation. I'm finding that I use it less often now because I don't want to risk the hassle and embarrassement of another dropped call......calling the individual back and apologizing. Not sure I'll be renewing.
It's only $19.95 but if you are reluctant to use it ....what's the point?

Figure out what proxy you're using and block it so you will use another proxy. I've found that the NY, LA, and Miami proxies are like death: echo, stuttering sound, dropped calls. San Diego, Nashville, and believe it or not, Chicago seem to work great.Vmill wrote:I'm coming up on my first year with MagicJack. I loved this thing up until about 3 months ago. Anne....The only change I've made in the last 3 months was my phone #. (Virginia # to West Virginia #)Everything else has been the same. I have cable high speed internet with a wired Linksys router WRT54GS. (ver. 1.1)
Hsweiss.....I've been reading up on all the info about downloading Tomato for several months and using that software with Linksys to isolate certain proxies. I think it's great that this system has helped some people. I'm just not comfortable doing it. Thanks for your response.

I've been experiencing the same problem. the call would drop at exactly 5 minutes, then every 5minutes after that. What i do is just put the person on hold and then back off hold but that only gives you another 5 minutes until the call is dropped again. It's only a temporary solution but it'll have to do for now. Based on experience, i've learned that if you hear clicking noises in the beginning the call you can pretty much predict that it will cut off at 5 minutes.. in which case i usually call the person again.

I don't have a linksys router nor am I running Tomato. One can block proxy servers from within Windows by manipulating the routing table. I did that at first and when I was happy with the results, I duplicated the routing table in my FiOS Actiontec router. I blocked the "bad" proxy servers such as NYC, Miami, and LA by routing anything that goes to those IP addresses to my local printer who can't do anything with the packets and just tosses them into the bit bucket. When MJ can't get to its appointed proxy, after a timeout it finds another one.Vmill wrote:Anne....The only change I've made in the last 3 months was my phone #.
