I loved my magic jack until the update or whatever happened.
its now totally screwed & having to mess w/ the speaker settings makes it only work once in a while. If I set it up & it works for no reason it will nnot work later. I dont even change a thing or use my computer.
now I have gave up & will be getting my land line back on tuesday.
all my friends and family heard good things now they will have to hear bad
You might be able to get a free replacement dongle from MJ support. You have to spend hours on chat support following instructions, some of which can leave your system in bad shape. You can always just pretend to follow the instructions (or just those that strike you as wrong).
The other thing to do would be to try your MJ on someone else's computer. If you prove it doesn't work on another computer, then you could ignore all of MJ's suggestions (beyond reformating the device, running magicfix, etc.).
The downside to running it on someone else's computer is that MJ won't uninstall itself. It will pollute their computer like a virus.
One way to not mess up their computer would be to use the free clonezilla (google for it) to create an image of their computer that can be restored after you're done trying MJ on their system. (If it were me, I'd probably image my hard drive to an external drive. Image their drive to my drive. Boot their system from my drive. Play with MJ. Then restore my image from external drive to my hard drive. That way there's no chance you'd screw up your friend's hard disk.).
But, is it worth saving $20 a month to go through all that?
