Cant get it re-flashed

Here I am back again.

I solved the keyboard problem with a USB keyboard. And I found the 3mm screws for the base at the hardware store.

I have managed to get a 1 gb memory stick formatted and programmed so I can boot up in Win 98 DOS on drive C> but I cannot seem to get the memory stick programmed for a re-flash of the CF disk.

I have followed several different procedures found in different places on the internet and all of them get as far as "Do you want to format" and I answer yes, and they format but then do not transfer the files I have indicated. I tried dragging and dropping the files to the DOS stick after removing all the DOS files and trying to boot that. But I get an error:

"PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable"
"PXE-M0F : Exiting Intel PXE ROM."
"Error : Non-System disk or disk error. Replace and press any key when ready."

This same memory stick when supplied with the Win 98 DOS files instead of the Flash.IBR file boots correctly and into DOS at the C prompt.

I must be missing something.

OK, I have made progress.

I figured out what I was doing wrong with the memory stick and I now have the HP provided Flash.IMG installed so its working. The problem was that I didnt understand that after making the bootable memory stick I was supposed to leave all the files on it and they would be erased later by the SP36064 program. So I was erasing them first and then nothing worked.

I would rather have had George's Flash.IBR installed, but I still dont know what I did wrong there. BUT....the HP IMG is working thus far so I wont knock it. I couldnt figure out how to make Flash.IBR into Flash.IMG so I bailed out on it.

I now see I have to go on line and install DirectX before I can install the Magic Jack, but that is an exercise for tomorrow.

The only hitch is that I have not been able to get EWF to lock in the settings so I will automatically log in as Administrator. But I dont think that is a real problem as long as I know how to get there when I need to.

Hi,
I skipped installing DirectX and MJ worked fine. This was on a T5710. I don't know if DirectX was already in the HP image. But give it a try.

Direct X was only needed during an earlier MJ version. I do not believe it is required any longer so you can forget about that.

I am assuming since your using SP36064.exe that your TC is T5710; since that is the HP image for that model. The following instructions, which are also in one of the threads here, worked for me and have been reported to work for others.

HolomanGT provided the following instructions elsewhere to address power disable settings:

Make sure you don't have your Magic Jack plugged in during this procedure.

Your USB Controller entries will look like table #1 before you change anything:

Select:

ALi PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller

Select this item, right click and select Update Driver. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then select Next. Then select “don’t search, I will choose the driver to install”. Select Next. Leave the selection box for "Show compatible hardware” checked.

There should be two items in the Model box. Select the second item.

“Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller”.

Then select Next and after it is thru installing then Select Finish.
Your USB Controller entries will now look like the entries in Table #2:

Right click on all three USB Root Hub entries one at a time and select Properties then the Power Tab and un-check the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. This power saving must be turned off or you may experience things like the MagicJack failing to respond after it has been sitting idle for a time.

That is all I can think of you need. Installing Teamviewer is optional but makes it very handy to control the TC remotely. Just search for tons of info on Teamviewer here in the forum.

What is the size of your TC's onboard flash memory and RAM?

I got everything installed including Georges Flash.IBR...but I have since un installed it and gone back to the HP provided Flash.IMG because it takes about half the space that Georges does on the C: ram drive and the extra 250 Mbytes is useful because it allows IE to run properly and that was important since I needed to download tightVNC...which I prefer to TeamViewer because it supports Linux and XP and TeamViewer doesnt.....and I need to be able to download DirectX. Though I am not sure I need DirectX except that it sounded better on George flash.ibr with DirectX than it does on mine without DirectX.

BUT the rub is, I cant seem to get DirectX to install. At first it was because the Z: drive was too small (16mbytes), then after I tried moving Temp and Tmp to the C: drive as George suggested it wouldnt work because it couldnt find the Temp file. Then I moved them back and increased the size of Z: to 32 mbytes and it looked like it would install. But even though it looked like it worked, I couldnt find DxDiag.exe to run it so apparently it didnt install properly.

BUT...I am online and its working fine...if not as good as it could with Georges flash. I have ordered a 512 mbyte memory card so I can increase the memory from 512/256 to 512/512. Maybe that will allow me to run Georges flash which contains DirectX already installed and still have enough room for tightVNC and for IE to run properly.

I was thinking about installing Opera as the browser as it is much smaller than IE, but I couldnt find out how to delete IE so there wouldnt be any point if I couldnt remove IE
