MJ tries to make call and then all I get is a dial tone

Post by croy »

MJ says "Ready to Call" on dialog box, dial number on cordless phone, says it is "Placing a Call" on dialog box and then all I get is a dial tone again with the "Ready to Call" message. This happens when calling a land line or cell number. Sometimes it says "Session Progress" after "Ready to Call" after dialing. This is happening more and more often in the last couple of months along with other problems. MagicJack is really going to seed.

Have you been able to confirm that the party you are trying to call is available to receive the call? While this may not be the cause of your particular case, please at least confirm that you are aware of the recent discussions on this topic.

Please read through the recent posts that talk about this behavior in MJ, wherein you receive a new Dial Tone instead of a Busy Signal. Then please have a look through the rest of the forum, so that you can become familiar with the topics that are being discussed here.

While I agree that this could indicate your called party is busy, it might indicate that the proxy your connected to is overloaded. Of late I've had 2 experiences where the call is proceeding, I hear ringing, the other end answers and all I get is a very loud echo of myself or "call on hold" music. The other end hears the ringing and/or sees the caller id info but can't hear me. A recall usually succeeds in a completed call.

I'm still doing a lot of reading up on this, but I too cannot make a call. I have a dial tone, dial the number and it immediately goes back to a dial tone. I've rebooted the computer without the MJ plugged in. Once rebooted, I plug in the MJ. Once the soft phone is fully running and ready to go, I plug in my phone. Very disappointing. Time to read some more. Just wanted to post that you're not alone and I'm having the same problem.

When all of this is going on, what progress and information messages are being displayed on your MJ softphone screen?

it shows ready to call, then trying and when I get the dial tone again, it says ready to call.

I have found that if I click on the restart in the menu first, it works fine. But this mean I have to restart it every time before I use it to call out :(

Have done some more reading and just clicked the fix button on the soft phone clicked the link for the latest upgrades. Will see if that makes a difference.

I'm having this problem as well, very annoying! It seems to work more often if I dial from the MJ SW but most of the time when I dial from the phone is just goes right back to dial tone!

Unfortunately, this makes it essentially unusable for my wife and she's the one we got it for!

Any new ideas??

Updating my own post....

My MJ has now worked perfectly and continually for 4 day without a glitch. I upgraded the firmware in my Linksys WRT54GL router to Tomato. Seems that the router was the problem.
