Problems when Using on other xp computers. Help Please...

Hi,
I setup my MJ on a laptop using Win XP. No problem using phone or functions. I then went and tried plugging into a desktop running XP to make sure it works. I can't seem to get desktop to recognize MJ. I tried the support from MJ. Not good at all.I can't seem to figure out why it doesn't work. Please help me or send me a link. This must be a common easy problem to fix. I thank you in advance.

Specifically, what are your symptoms? Does the MJ dongle light up? Does the desktop show the two pseudo drives or not? What advice in any of the previous discussions or ongoing discussions here have you tried so far? What happened when you tried any of the advice that matched your symptoms?

What happens if you plug in a flash drive? Is it recognized or ignored? The question is whether your USB drivers/service are running on your desktop machine. If you open "My Computer" do you see the magicJack drives (typically E: and F:)?

I have similar problems, works great on my Laptop, but I need it on my home computer. Dell Desktop PC, never recognizes MJ, usually crashes it. I first suspected that it was because it was not USB 2.0 and My Laptop is, but have been assured it is not the cause. Someone offered to help me log my bluescreens and resolve, but I lost the URL to the forum and can't find it.
I tried all of the advice suggestions I could find, nothing has worked, except for logging & attempting to debug.


In addition to that, I cannot get my voicemails, as I attempted to change numbers and it doesn't take. Tried tech support and they do not understand me nor I them. Advice totally unrelated to my issue. And, they get angry easily and hang up on you. I completely deleted the old number to receive voicemails at, made the new one the default, but it continues to send them to an old email address.

It's a great deal for the money, I just don't need it on my laptop, I need it on my home PC.

I can guarantee you that your problem has nothing to do with USB 1.1 vs. USB 2.0 since I ran MJ on USB 1.1 for about 10 months until I bought a USB 2.0 PCI board. So now my (old) desktop machine has both USB 1.1 (2 ports) and USB 2.0 (5 ports).

Do you have other problems with your desktop? Have you run virus/malware scans to clean it up? Do you have a backup (or can you make a backup) of your data and then reinstall a fresh copy of Windows? Seems like MJ is working fine - the problem is with your desktop PC. And you wouldn't be the first to have such problems.

I'm behind a router, update and run SuperAntiSpyware, Avast Anti Virus and Comodo firewall as well as updating and running Malwarebytes on occasion, chekdisk, defrag etc. I purchased a powered USB port and tried that with no success. Someone mentioned that a lot of Dell computers faced the same issue, possible something to do with the USB card, which I plan on installing a new one soon.

While I find it hard to believe that there is something weird about the MJ USB that Dell machines don't like (my laptop is a Dell and has no problems with MJ), you can buy a USB 2.0 PCI card for almost nothing. See http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4702 for under $8 including shipping! I have this card, popped it in, XP found it and configured it and I was off and running.

Yes, I'll try that next, and I haven't found a laptop it wouldn't work on. Odd.
Basically, though, I was told to log my bluescreen and this guy was going to help me debug. That's where I was headed, but I guess I can try this next instead.

I have an older Dell desktop GX-100 running at 575 Mhz and it won't let MJ install correctly. It has 512 Mb ram and a USB 2.0 card. MJ works ok on my thin client , my HP Pentium 4 laptop and daughter's HP AMD Laptop. My point is the computer type, condition and age can make a big difference in trying a successful install. Using a different USB port than the one where MJ was originally installed can effect connectivity. I found this to be true on my HP t5700 thin client when I accidentally plugged it into a different USB. MJ can be very sensitive to the many variables associated with computers.
