Is there a way to get the magicjack to auto-detect local calls?

Like for example, if my area code were 555 and I wanted to make a local call, right now I have to dial 555-123-4567

Is it possible to get the magicjack to autodetect areacode, so if I dial 123-4567 it will automatically put in the 555 for me?

I've been a MJ user for a long time now, seems silly they haven't come up with a fix yet for dialing the area code especially since the local area code is displayed at the top of the softphone.

I don't know why MJ central won't apply your local area code and resend the number when they only get seven digits. it just makes sense to do so,they just play that stupid recording about you dialing the (area code) extra digits.

I know
It's rather annoying.

It was a little humorous when a neighbor's friend asked to use our phone and I explained to her that she had to dial the area code first. She was like "On a landline!?!?!?" I never did explain to her that it wasn't a landline phone! xD

It's these sorts of things I am able to easily forgive when I stop to consider how much this phone service costs. ;)

Yeah, I forgive it too, but I'd still prefer to be lazy and not have to dial the three extra numbers

I've been dialing 10 digits for local calls for about 15 years. There is no choice since there three overlayed area codes here. My home phone and cell phone are in different area codes.

Many areas in the country are now using overlay area codes. This forces 10-digit dialing, even using POTS. If you added a second line via the local telco, you could have a different area code on each line.

Since some areas are forced to 10-digit dialing, MJ just forces it for all calls, since using 10-digit dialing even in a 7-digit area is acceptable. Eventually, all calls will have to be dialed using 10-digits.

Actually, before one of the upgrades, I was able to do 7 digit dialing within my MJ's area code. But that was many, many months ago. It has not worked of late.

BTW, most PBX's do digit stuffing of this sort but that doesn't help you does it? :-)
