Have 2 magicjacks, 1 works wired, the other one doesn't?

Post by a239914 »

Hi I have 2 magicjacks, I alternate them for use as 1 have a Seattle Number, and the other one a North Carolina number, I plug them to my home jacks and 1 works well with all the phones, the other one partially works!! I have to unplug one of the phones (Uniden) for it to work... Both have the same software version, note the two of them alternate connection with an IBM laptop, nothing special, running XP, any help or guidance will be appreciated, the only think I could think is a firmware difference??? any help will be apprecciated, I have been able to go around the problem by using the Seattle Magicjack, and forwarding the North Carolina to it, the only thing is that when I do this we have to dial 10 digits out...not a biggie, but it gets me that I cannot make it work. Thanks in advance for any possible help.
BTW the inconvenience is minimal compare to the price, and benefit of magicjack, I have no problems at all with sound, quality is excellent, bottom line is a great deal compare to the cost.

It sounds as if there are some hardware differences between the two MJs. There have been I think three different hardware versions of MJ sold so far and there can be differences in hardware perforamce even with the exact same hardware version due to component tolerances etc.

One thing you may try is to use a powered USB hub between the computer and the MJs. The MJs require near maximum power from a USB port and using a good USB hub to provide that power rather than the power from the computer's USB port itself often make a difference.

I have heard the the following hub performs well http://www.windmilltrading.com/USBProds ... 4U2ABK.htm
