sound distorted - xbox controller

Post by lektrikpuke »

Howdy y'all,

My friend loaned me a usb xbox controller, so I can get used to it (so when I visit him I can actually move around in games). If I plug the xbox controller in, the magic jack audio becomes distorted. The only way to fix it (that I've found so far) is to unplug the xbox controller and reboot the computer (just unplugging the controller doesn't do it).

What can I do (as I'd like to get an xbox controller for my computer now that I've seen how much better it is than using the keyboard and mouse)?

Thanks.

Ok, I found out by mistake if I disconnect the Magic Jack device, then connect the xbox controller, and then (when done) disconnect the xbox controller, and reconnect the Magic Jack device, it will work. So, I guess as long as the Magic Jack is not connected at the same time as the xbox controller everything is ok (and no need to restart). Would be nice if I didn't have to do this. Any ideas? Anyone?

I figure it's because the Xbox being plugged in while the MagicJack is causes a fair drop in the USB power supply.

I suggest getting an externally powered USB hub and sticking the MagicJack on it.

I would try that, and I appreciate the response, but the problem remains after the xbox controller is removed/disconnected. That would suggest it is not a power issue. Again, thanks for the response. Any other ideas?

I still woulkdn't rule it out.

The drop in power on the MagicJack could cause a circuitry error that will remain even after power has been restored. Happens to my camera all the time.

Sounds reasonable. I can't get to a store (with electronics) till the weekend. Will post back one way or the other. Thanks. =)

Ok, got a powered usb hub and that appears to have fixed it. Thanks for the help, and for insisting. =)
