Error BROKEN STORAGE

I have had my mj for 3 and 1/2 months now. Two days ago I got the Red Error Broken Storage . I have tried everything. I have had no luck with mj's tech support. I even went as far as to "un- install" mj so I thought but after reading some of these posts I obviously didn't. Now I have no soft phone either. If there is anyone out there that can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know

Why a private reply? You don't want others to benefit from your experiences?

Anyway, have you tried this broken MJ on another computer?

Did you format the USB drive?

It's always helpful to state what you've done so far to speed the trouble-shooting process along so we don't have to re-invent the wheel.

It doesn't have to be a private message. I'm just new to this forum

I only have 1 computer, I am using windows XP sp2, The Tech's am MJ had me format the I USB drive, now it doesn't show up under my computer no matter what USB port I plug into. I have done a system restore, ( we had a power outage just before this started acting up) they also had me reinstall the magic fix, also a mjrepair.

so far nothing is working .

We have had MJ for 3 and 1/2 months with very little problems, so we turned off our phone service. If anyone out there can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I hope this will help others as well.

I bought MJ in May it worked well up until today 8-19-08. It stopped working today just after downloading an update sent to me from MJ website. IM getting 2 error messages. One is a red message saying that MJ need to be plugged into USB port, inspite of the fact that it is plugged in. The second error message says "Broken Storage" live help is no help I went thru all types of procedures with a total of 4 reps from MJ website live help all to no avail. They inform me that they will get back intouch with me in 24 hours thru my email. I bought another MJ for a friend and it messed their computer up and they cannot use MJ on their computer. MJ doesnt look good and I would not recommend this product to anyone else, and I regret that I have recommended it to a few folks in the past. Right now I have no idea on what to do. thumbs down to majic jack.

Chatted yesterday, "higher" tech "fixed" it, with format, upgrade, rename and reregister. BUt only lasts till unplugged or computer off:( Tried on another computer, same thing.
Called today again, sent to "higher" tech right away, who read yesterday's chat and is sending another unit, by mail. I live 4 miles from warehouse:(

Maybe when it reads BROKEN STORAGE in red, it means it's BROKEN!
We were going t drop phone line the end of this month, looks like a longer wait.

I have tried everything with a computer tech to get this fixed to no avail. I know its the jack itself beause I have 2 computers and I get the same error message on both computers. A total loss and no one is replacing the defective jack from magic jack. Thumbs down to magic jack I will spread bad news about magic jack and that company.

Re-formatting by itself didn't work but here's what did -

I reformatted the drive but named the volume - phone - (no hyphens, no spaces, just phone) and reformatted the drive (TWICE)

DO NOT UNPLUG - RUN UPDATE IMMEDIATELY AFTER NAMING THE VOLUME phone and FORMATTING TWICE - (QUICK FORMAT)

It's up and running.

There might have been something else MagicJack did from their chat support as well. They were gone a few minutes...

Not sure what it was if anything... so try that and see if it works!

BTW - don't be so hard on the MagicJack people... this was my first error after having it for the last 4 or 5 months. It's a killer product, with virtually NO TECHNICAL glitches... Big deal if it takes 10 minutes to fix this once every 6 months.

Imagine: ATT is starting to feel the pain.... not to mention, every hacker under the sun is trying to figure out how to cause problems for these guys.

They're NOT like Microsoft and trying to screw everyone get our last nickel. MagicJack is a smoking deal!

Give MJ a break and tell a friend - these guys are friends of the PEOPLE...

Ok Easy fix for me at least,
I went to http://www.magicjack.com/1/faq/
did a search for Upgrade
Found one called "How do i upgrade"

Had a response saying
To run the upgrade:

1. Plug your magicJack in and click here to run the upgrade.
2. On the dialogue that appears, click run.

Make sure that the magicJack is plugged in while you are running the upgrade.

Click where it says, download starts, run file while MagicJack is installed and It fixed immediately.

The simple and easy solution for Error Broken Storage is to upgrade magicjack drive after formatting . Never do unplugging after formatting .

Make sure you see two magicjack drives in My computer.

Two days in a row I contacted MJ support due to a broken storage error. On a mac we don't get that error. I had to plug it into a PC to get that error.

Each day after reformatting and running the upgrade the phone worked. Even though I left the phone plugged the next day the phone would not work.

Last night I ran the process on my own. Thankfully this morning the phone is working. I'll need to see if it continues through the day. If it stops working again I'm gong to try switching it to my PC.

My friend and I are trying to fix this Error Broken Storage issue and have encountered one problem: we couldn't find the second magicJack (Vista only) icon within the My Computer section.

The only icon we could find is the black phone plainly labeled "magicJack", which does not offer an option to format it.

Can anyone help?

I was messing around reinstalling my comp, and my mj did the same thing, it would not show in vista.I went to support no help. this is what i did to get it to work again, i got skype and set it up, it discoverd my mj that was pluged in, it set itself up with it and my mj appeared in vista again. I uninstalled skype and my mj works fine. Hope this helps there is post on how to set up mj with skype.
