HOW TO USE THE MAGICJACK WITH SKYPE AND A CORDLESS PHONE
The key to making this work is a simple piece of software written by TigerJet. Since the MJ dongle is based on the TigerJet software and chip, it plays very nicely with this software.
The software I am speaking of is (IP Phone Center) by TigerJet.
1) Download this software for free, and run the install program. http://www.tjnet.com/software/ip_phone/installation.htm
2) Plug in your MJ dongle. Do not plug in the dongle before you have installed IP Phone Center.
3) While the MJ dongle is plugged in, stop the MJ software. Just use Stroths MJ Utility Suite 1.6 posted in this forum to stop the MJ software. If you will not be using MJ at all and want only to use Skype, then go to msconfig in windows, and under the Start tab, uncheck the following two items:
magicjack
cdloader2
4) Open IP Phone Center, and configure it for Skype. It will use your MJ dongle as a USB phone. Make sure you configure Skype to use the USB phone as the sound device for microphone & speakers.
5) Plug cordless phone of your choosing into MJ dongle and enjoy.
If you desire to use your MJ dongle as it was intended, then simply restart your MJ software.
Especially useful for those who have problems using MJ, and are using Skype instead or for those who have a dongle but no desire to renew their MJ service.
It works very well in my opinion. Obviously I have too much time on my hands, which how I discovered this nifty use of the MJ dongle.
The key features of the IP Phone Center software:
• Full Skype interface API support.
• Multiple languages interface support
• SkypeOut call using the phone key pad
• Rings on Skype's incoming call with caller ID
• Use your choice of phone (including cordless phone)
• Sound card independent and does not occupy your sound channel
• New feature: Make Skype call from your Phone's history list.
• New feature: Upload Skype contact list to your phone's history list. (Right Click IPC icon and click "Upload skype phone book")

Thanks VoipDude !!!
I'll bet this will be real popular with the folks that have jumped ship for whatever reason and are now using Skype.
I personally don't thing the Skype to standard phone adapters are all that good and most of the vendors/manufactures don't seem to really support the product very well.
Most of the drivers that I have used are somewhat aged and I don't know how well they would play with anything but XP.
This work-around you have come up with should at least work up to VISTA and possibly Windows 7.
Regards,
PS - could you possibly add what MJ stuff you turn off and how to go about it. - Thanks.

Looks promising, the software is designed for Skype

So can you confirm if all 3 below work properly?
CID display on the phone
Ring with incoming call
Dial from the phone

No, it does not change the USB device, nor does it write anything to the device. MJ updates will occur as usual.free2talk wrote:VoipDude,
Upon installing the software does it change the USB device in any way by writing anything to it ?What happens if MJ pushes out an update.
I intend to use for both skype and MJ so the question.

I get the same message but I signed up for skype unlimited calling plan for $2.95 a month and used the mj to make about 6 calls so far and the calls have been crystal clear. It's a nice addition if your really worried about ever being cutoff for excessive calling. The other great thing is you come up unavailable so no need for any extra programs ever going down to block your caller id.

I have the same problem. It would seem that much of the software from the install is not necessary - only the drivers for TigerJet hardware so Skype can see the MagicJack USB device. The TigerJet web site has locked out the drivers set download.
I would love to have the TJ drivers so I just use the MagicJack hardware with Skype. Any help out there?
Cheers

I am lead to believe my version of the MJ will work fine with the original TJ driver set. Do you have that set?VoipDude wrote:The newer magicJack chips appear not to be compatible with the TJ software. Older dongles appear to work fine.
Also, used the download for referenced above and it is for a different software pack so I think the variable is that software and not the MJ's chipset.

Nope Waterborn.
I am not going to lie to you.
I was using that one with the old MJ.
But with the new MJ i am using another one.
But the person who sended me that one specifically asked me to keepp it private. Those were his/her words.
Just to let you know that that one does work but with older MJ chips like VoIPDude says.

The difference is that this version is 8.25. The version in my original post is the latest version 8.30.NeonNexxus wrote:

I was able to use the MJ jack for skype by just choosing it in Skype as headset and mic. Did not install anything anymore except the Magicjack software. Was able to use it at the "same time", meaning if nobody was calling Magicjack, I can use it for Skype and vice versa. No hacking or special software needed.

Software is Sensitive to Something INstalled
I installed the 8.30 version. Here are the results:
Under Vista 64bit, I get an error message after starting the IP Phone Center of "pc2pcCAll.exe" not found, and then immediately an error stating the sound device database is wrong, that a full reboot is necessary. The IP Phone Center application indicates that it cannot find the MJ hardware.
Although Skype will work in the conditions listed above, you do not have the primary value of the MJ hardware, e.g. pick a cordless phone up and start dialing without having to use "##" type codes. Plus, you must use the computer where Skype is installed to start dialing and to accept an incoming call.
Under Vista 32bit, I get the same error message as above however the IP Phone Center continues to run and finds the MJ hardware.
In Vista 32bit, I am able to use the MJ hardware in all of its glory: just start dialing to make a call and just hit talk button on cordless phone to answer a call.
Any ideas for the Vista 64bit OS or how to eliminate the error messages when booting up on either setup?

Thanks for the great find. With the excessive beep problem right now this is a perfect fit. I also really enjoy the CID name if you have it programmed in your skype's address book. The audio is much better than MJ at the current time. I hope they get the audio issues fixed soon but for now I'll just forward my MJ number to my skype number. Thanks Sabresfan

using magicjack for skype
I got my magicjack to work with skype under windows 7 64bit.
However, i have to press ## after i dial the number on my cordless phone in order to make the call initiate.
Is there any way to avoid having to press ##?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Also, when another person tries to call my skype number, while i am using it...is there any call waiting features available?

Initiating calls without pressing ##
Since the magic jack software is able to dial out immediately after you finish dialing your number, I was thinking that it must be possible to initiate phone calls without having to press ##, when using the magic jack and the ip phone center.
Does anyone have some thoughts about how to make this possible...it would sure make using a cordless phone a whole lot more convenient!

Can we use both Skype and MJ at the same time.. Most of the time either of these would be free.. I am not expecting to handle both the calls at the same time...rather using one or the other at one time not having go through all these changes.. i have a dedicated PC running for Magic Jack.. so.. I am wondering if I can use that for Skype too.
This is already answered in my post, which is the first post in this forum.cooldude929 wrote:Can we use both Skype and MJ at the same time.. Most of the time either of these would be free.. Anyone out there try the Philips VOIP321 series that has a Skype bundle and a Skype button right on their handsets?
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Single-Ha ... B000FZXHL4
Just wondering how the switching between the MJ and Skype would work on this model? It also has it's own slightly customized version of Skype and recommends you use the CD included with the phones for the Skype and not to download from the internet.

Working with Vista
So I finally got these drivers (most of them but not all) to work under Vista 64 (and Vista 32).
The first problem with both versions of Vista is that you must install from an Admin users account of which the "User Account Control" option is turned off in the security options. Otherwise, this software will not install correctly.
If you do not see the dialog that requests you to enter your name, then you have failed to do the above.
When you have the above installed under either Vista, you will always have an error when starting up. From the previous email from me on same subject, that message indicates a problem with the database recording.
Just select OK, and your MJ hardware will function with Skype without requiring ## to dial or answer. As a matter of fact, if you do enter ## to dial a call, the software will dial the number that you want and also dial the first entry in your contact list - so don't hit ##.
However, in the system event log, the file "TLRecAgent.sys" will fail to load. This driver is installed but cannot be loaded in either version of Vista, for some reason??
Anyone have a Vista version of this driver?

One point on a graph does not make a trend... :)
This driver set has specific needs to be installed successful. You obviously have met those needs. However, as evidenced here, others have not.
Again, does anyone have the Vista version of this driver??

It is not one point on a graph, but rather the majority that have no issue with the software and/or drivers. As mentioned in my earlier posts, newer chipsets on the MJ dongles can have issues, but the older chipsets work well.waterborn0 wrote:

How To Make Skype Calls on magicJack
First you need to download and install the Skype software plugin "SkyjackPlugin" from http://www.pcphonesoft.com.
To place Skype calls just dial * before the number you want to call. Speed dial numbers are available for dialing other Skype users. Regular magicJack calls are placed as normal. For incoming calls, just answer the phone when it rings.

I tried this with Gizmo5 but can't get it to work.
1. Incoming: When I call Gizmo from my cell, the phone (connected to magicjack dongle) doesn't ring.
2. Outgoing: When I pick up the phone, I head dial tone so I tried to make outgoing call. But nothing happens. I can see the numbers are typed in Gizmo app as punch the numbers on the phone but that's it.
Any help will be appreciated.

This thread and the solutions previously described are solely for using Skype from http://www.skype.com with a magicJack.
