I'm anxiously awaiting my MJ, ordered today. I'm running Vista on a laptop.
I use RKS Fax for Vista (Mighty Fax is for XP), which is a printer driver that uses the telephone modem to send and receive faxes on my laptop. You "print" the document to be faxed and the RKS printer driver acts like a regular fax machine when the modem is connected to a regular telephone line, waiting for a dial tone and dialing the number and transmitting the fax. To receive faxes, the laptop must be connected to a regular phone line and acts just like a real fax machine, answering the fax after a couple of rings.
While connected to broadband, can I simply use a short modular telephone cord to jump the integrated laptop telephone modem to the MagicJack to send and receive faxes? The RKS Fax allows all the "unofficial" settings indicated for the MJ. Has anyone used fax software in this way with their MJ?
If anyone is interested in trying this combination, a 30-day trial version is available from http://rkssoftware.com/ I will say I have used this product for many years and am very happy with it. Long ago, I ditched my fax machine, but I'm a Realtor forced to continue faxing for the benefit of other Realtors who remain hopelessly stuck in the 1980's.
