MagicJack on Fring
For those who want to try their SIPs on Fring, here is what I did, btw my phone is a Samsung Omnia (Windows Mobile)
1. Use stroths MagicJack utilites to get your SIP credentials
2. Download the latest Fring and install on your phone
3. Go to SIP
4. Choose Others
5. Enter your Username, this is the user start E your phone digits and 01 ie. EXXXXXXXXXX01
6. Enter your 20 char password, I believe they fixed the 18 digit limitation
7. Enter your proxy and add port 5070 (ie. proxy01.sanfrancisco.talk4free.com:5070
8. Subscribe
9. SIP is now available in fring, you can check by looking at the SIP icon, it should have a green check.
10. The person your calling should be on your buddy list, somehow it does not work if you just enter a number.
11. Use menu option -> call -> by SIP
Tip: One way to add it to your buddy list is to add it via Skype. The Fring -Skype add-on gets your lists automatically, so you don't have to add it to your phone memory.
Tip: Use wifi instead of 3G, it sounds and works better.
Edit: Since the link seems to be not working, I put back the original thread.

Thanks for your tutorial!
I did as you instructed, and all seems to work well. With Fring on my iPhone, I can merely choose a contact from my phone, or key in a number, choose to dial it by "SIP" and it works. I don't have the limitation of only being able to call from buddies!
Btw, I did use this over WiFi. Can try it over 2G at some point, but I'm sure that'll be a disaster. I don't have an iPhone 3G.

Yeah that was weird. The original post was great - why remove it.
The link didn't work for me either.
FYI, for others who didn't get to read the original post, when you enter SIP into fring.......
Your username is exactly what Stroths Utilities gives you. It is 'E' then your 10 digit phone number then '01'
example: E612555121201
Your password is exactly what Stroths Utilities gives you. It is 20 characters, do not add an 'E' to the front, all letters must be caps.
example: HG39GJSD894KG924NMH2
Your proxy address is the proxyname provided by Stroths Utilities followed by ':5070'.
example: proxy1.houston.talk4free.com:5070

Yes I have done this and it works.
I haven't used it a lot. I've made two calls - to a person's cell phone who was sitting right beside me. There is a significant lag time from when the person speaks to when you hear it through the phone.
I don't have wifi at home, or at very many places I go, so I don't have much of a use for it, but it was neat to try.

I have no idea if I have the update or not. The dongle is plugged in 24/7, the computer is turned on and online 24/7. I assume it updates automatically. If it's waiting for a computer restart to install the update, then I might not have it, becuase I never restart the computer until it crashes. I haven't seen the "updating....lucky you" splash screen.tony wrote:Thanks, have you run the Jun 9/09 update on your dongle?couch-potato wrote:I used it on June 10.
Yeah, I'm not sure if the updates only occur on MJ starting up (I think so). Do you unplug your dongle at the times you use your MJ info on Fring? Others have posted that MJ can detect if your sip info is registered on two or more devices.couch-potato wrote:If it's waiting for a computer restart to install the update, then I might not have it, becuase I never restart the computer until it crashes. You may lose your ability to use your MJ credentials on Fring after the update. I have an un-used dongle and I put the sip credentials into Fring, but after the June 9/09 MJ update, MJ on Fring stopped working. I've checked the username and password, nothing has changed.

No, I didn't unplug the dongle before I used fring. But then, I've only ever used fring twice, and the two weren't being used simultaneously (the dongle was plugged in, but no calls were made). I don't have wifi at home, and there are only two places where I go that can get wifi. When I am at those two places, I am busy doing other things, and there are landlines available to use there. I'm not too worried about MJ detecting use on two devices - I use MJ for only about 5 phone calls per week.
I will check today if fring is still working, as I will be going to a wifi place today. My computer restarted on the weekend, so if there was an update, I should have it now.

Same prob here
I've got the same problem. Had Fring working on a Windows Mobile phone and on an iPOD Touch 2G. Currently, Fring 3.34.17.216 and mJ upgrade was 1.80.4841.3386. Now my SIP credentials won't register. Tried DNS and IP for the proxy with and without the port specified - no dice.

Cheesy workaround - okay not really...
Until someone more skilled than I finds a way to best mJ's new firmware auth-procedure with Fring if you're not willing to wait for your Google Voice invitation why not sign up for a Skype account. They let you make free outbound calls I think the receiving caller will see "unknown caller" until you pay for their inbound phone service. But that's okay. So setup Fring to use Skype for free outbound calls without caller ID. Make your call and if the other person does not pick up you can leave them a vmail to call you on your mJ number. If you're by your PC you can pick up on the mJ but if you're out just log into my.mj and configure your call fwd feature to your cellular phone. It's kind if silly but gives you some sort of branding with your mJ phone number still. I was lucky to get an mJ number with a nice sequence of digits so "branding" as I call it is perk for me. Luckily GV invites came in and they let you seek vanity numbers.

Ummm
I think I'll wait for the TK7000. Perhaps it will be in a gold chassis (vs. that of the chrome TK6000) and include an LED light kit for youths with clear case gamer PC's?!?! I will say number portability is a plus. The user guide also says to punch holes for "xxxx, yyyy, and zzzz" in my firewall. Yeah, I'll get right on that. Who am I kidding? I'm vendor agnostic. Dan did a marvelous job but competition is always there.
