Hi,
What's your starting point? Do you mean what you need over and above what's been discussed here http://www.phoneservicesupport.com/dumm ... t3605.html ? I'd suggest starting with the stock Windows XPe that you'll download from the HP thin client site. The only other thing you might need is the audio driver found here http://rs9.rapidshare.com/files/1398091 ... Driver.zip

One more question, would the 5700, 5710, and the 5720 all follow the same setup? The 5720 wont have a different setup compared to the 5700?

My experience is only with the T5700 and T5710. If the T5220 is similar, the then the JeepsterGuy's instructions for the T5700 should apply. I noticed there were different add/remove options available for the T5700 vs the T5710 (more options with T5710).

My HP5720 was plug the dongle in and start making calls. Was all of a 2 minute setup, no extra software needed.

Tony or anyone, i got the TC working great, the only thing im not sure of is the removing of unwanted files. As you stated on the 5720, some of the things listed on the add or remove programs are diffrent. Heres a list of what i have left, can someone tell me what i can safely get rid off thanks. #1 Altris Client Agent 2.81mb. #2 Citrix XenApp for Hosted Apps 10.43mb. #3 HP RDP Multimeda and USB Enhancements [client side] 1.45mb. #4 HP Remote Graphics Reciever 26.1mb. #5 HP Session Allocation Client 2.0mb. #6 HP TeemTalk Teminal Emulator 21.2mb. #7 Symantec Endpoint Protection Firewall 8.31mb. #8 VMware View Client 17.79mb. So of these 8 things listed what can i delete thanks.

Hi,
The ones I'm comfortable advising you to remove are:
#1 Altris Client Agent 2.81mb.
#6 HP TeemTalk Teminal Emulator 21.2mb. (chat)

Not a great deal of memory saved there. The rest I'm not sure if they are critical or not. I don't recognize them from the T5700 or T5710. When you check your configuration with HP System Configuration, how much Flash drive space do you have left? If lots, I wouldn't worry about removing anything else. Thing is if you remove something critical by accident and there isn't a corresponding Add utility, you'll need to start with a fresh image on your TC.

Enjoy

I got mine new on ebay, you can find used ones pre-installed with MJ for around $100.

Thanks Tony ill get rid of those two. I already got rid of windows media and just needed a bit more. Those two you mentioned should leave me plenty of room on my flash. One more question i have what does this step actually do? Reset Flash drive size to 32M, it was on 64.
Double click on HP RAMDisk Manager. Slide the bar to 32MB and click OK. You will be asked to reboot. Select yes and the TC will reboot.

I need to ask a question

Post by micheal »

Do you ever reinstall XPe on your bought HP Thin Clinet t5720?

I got a T5720, and plugged in magic jack, but cannot toggle to telephone, so the phone rings inside the pc, not the telephone, plus the other end of call, can hear nothing.

Please provide information.

Thanks

You can delete all of them -- none are needed to run HP t5xxx-series thin clients as stand-alone.

Note that the Symantec Endpoint Protection Firewall is a firewall. I don't think these are necessary on a thin client -- if anyone hacks into the machine, just reboot it and it's back to normal.

Note, too, that the Altris Client Agent may be impossible to get rid of -- sometimes the OS will re-install this automatically.

These are the purposes of the other programs:

#2 Citrix XenApp for Hosted Apps 10.43mb. A VPN client for using applications hosted on a server.

#3 HP RDP Multimeda and USB Enhancements [client side] 1.45mb. Provides support for using multimedia and USB devices hosted on a remote server.

#4 HP Remote Graphics Reciever 26.1mb. As the name implies, permits the thin client to work with graphics apps running on a remote server.

#5 HP Session Allocation Client 2.0mb. Essentially a security program to manage and coordinate user sessions on the remote application server.

#6 HP TeemTalk Teminal Emulator 21.2mb. Just like it says, it's a dumb terminal emulator. Only useful for talking to mainframes and the like.

#7 Symantec Endpoint Protection Firewall 8.31mb. This is an updated version of the Sygate Personal Firewall. It's actually a pretty good firewall but, as I indicated above, is not really needed on a thin client, particularly one that's behind a router -- these provide a hardware firewall.

#8 VMware View Client 17.79mb. Allows the thin client to access VMware sessions hosted either remotely or (I assume) locally. VMware is a product that provides a software emulation of a computer and can run other operating systems, e.g. you can have a Linux computer running "inside" a Windows PC, run XP inside a Vista machine, etc. There are simpler (and free) alternatives and, at any rate, there is no need to run one of these on a thin client.

Make sure you toggle the little green lock so the change is "committed" before clicking "OK" to re-boot. As for what it does, it halves the size of the RAM drive that is created out of volatile RAM. Unless you change the environment settings, Windows uses the RAM drive (z: on the HP) for its temporary files (TMP and TEMP). It's primary relevance is if you are loading new software onto the thin client -- many programs, including .zip and any internet download -- use the z:\temp directory for unpacking and intermediate storage. If there is not enough room, the install will crash. However, it is easy to change the environmental variables to point to a temporarily-installed USB drive or thumb drive, do the installation, and then set the environmental variables back to z:\temp.

Hi,
The RAM disk setting creates the Z: drive. For installing programs, you need a larger Z: drive, so you boost the size to 64 MB. Then when you are finished setting up, you reduce the size of the Z: dirve and free up the memory for RAM.

The TC will ask you to reboot for the changes to take effect.
