Magic Jack went from intermittent shut down to complete inop

Post by allwired »

Hello Everyone,

I just stumbled across this forum. I'm glad to see someone is supporting this product!

Anyway... For the past few months, the mj would intermittently shut down. It's a frustrating problem, but was easily fixed by unplugging and replugging in the mj.

All of the sudden, now the mj wont run at all. everytime I plug it into the usb, it will light up blue for approx 3 seconds, then turn off. My computer says it "cannot recognize the usb device".

The biggest problem I have is that I use the mj a business line for my side work, and its the number I use to communicate with customers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. In worst case scenario, am I able to port my mj number to a different phone service?

Thanks

Get a powered USB hub. The MJ is overloading the USB port on your computer and causing it to shut down.

hey Murphy,

Thanks for the quick response! I will order a powered usb hub today. I'm a tool and though it was a bad usb port on my computer, so I ordered a PCI to USB 2.0 card to try to correct this issue

Same problem with a powered USB Hub

I have the same problem, and have a powered USB hub. The MJ is the only device plugged into it. It unexpectedly shuts down the softphone and will not call out or accept calls.
