That is weird. I got a 509 area code number no problem. Sure its from way up in Spokane some 120 miles to the north up in the cold country but at least it is an east side WA state number. You didn't see any 509 or 206 area codes available for you??

For some reason I am cynical about this and think they don't give WA to people in BC. I don't know why I think that but I do.
When I try to click on the WA in the drop down box, it goes back to "Alabama" I have just checked almost every other state and there are phone numbers available. Grrr why in the hech no WA?
Can someone try to obtain a WA number please. I cannot access them. I will be curious to know if they are indeed blocking me from obtaining one for some reason.

Hi,
I'm in Vancouver BC, just north of the state of Washington. I can confirm the original poster's observations. When I go through the motions of changing my MJ number, the first time I click on the drop down list of states, I see Washington. I scroll down to Washington and click it. The list goes back to Alabama, then when I scroll down to the W's, Washington isn't there anymore. It's like MJ doesn't want people in BC to have a number in a neighbouring state. But in anycase, it does no good to the MJ user because it's long distance to WA from BC so it's not a local call for friends and neighbours at home.
Trellaine, what is your reason for having a WA number? Is it to have a local number for your contacts in the state of WA? If it's to have a number close to BC, it's long distance anyways from BC. So you might as well pick any other city in the US. It's all the same for Canadian subscribers. I picked a US city on the east coast where my relatives live.
I'm also in the Seattle area, have had MJ for about 3 weeks and I have an Alabama areacode. When I attempt to change it is also says the same...no Washington state areacodes available. I logged into customer support and chatted with a "live" representative that assured me that MJ is working as hard as they can in obtaining new Washington State areacodes, however they could not estimate when they will have these available.
I guess we just keep checking back until they come available. BTW, I believe that the reason that they're not avail is because MJ has been marketing our state very heavily, unlike some other states. Actually if you look at that pulldown tab on states you'll see that several other states are not available either.
I am in the south Sound area, and they have added new numbers in the last year or so, but none are available now. MJ actually has all 5 WA area codes now (206, 425, 253, 360 & 509) but there's a severe shortage of assignable numbers. Typically the numbers are leased from other providers (Sprint is the owner of my prefix), so often only a few thousand-number blocks are available for any given prefix. I bought my MJ in June '08 and the 253/425 choices were new then, but obviously they've all been taken.
I've just got my MJ and had no problem getting a 360 area code. The only reason I chose it was since I've had one for over 8 years now it would be the easiest to remember.
It seems I was wrong or they got new numbers to assign, as WA number selection is once again enabled. I'm not sure how long it will last, so get one ASAP.
